The Safety Manager is responsible for the continuous overall coordination and implementation of employee health and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and policies, but most importantly, to ensure employee safety for the Tulare, Lost Hills, and Firebaugh facilities. This is done by developing, implementing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and standard operating procedures to ensure compliance and assess risk at all levels within the company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts regular walkthroughs and inspections of all three facilities; assess any potential safety issues and initiates corrective action.
Trains, tests, and certifies employees requiring a Forklift, Ariel Platform and any other equipment requiring a certification.
Investigates incidents, injuries, and property damage including compiling data, taking photographs, and completing proper documentation.
Compiles data, photographs, etc.; prepares all pertinent forms and reports per program procedures and federal, state, and local regulations associated with accidents.
Issues various permits (i.e. Hot Work, Confined Space, etc.) as required.
Responsible for employee safety training portion of new hire orientation process.
Maintains all safety related binders and safety training matrix.
Prepares and conducts Quarterly Tailgate Trainings.
Facilitates required Annual, Semi Annual and Quarterly Employee Safety Trainings.
Conducts inventories of safety equipment items and supplies, reorders items as needed.
Issues Employee PPE, Bump Caps, etc.
Issues HID Badges and maintains the HID tracking system.
Works with HR to set up a new employee on-boarding process for safety.
Assists management in assessing risks throughout various levels of processing.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job.
Follow all company safety protocols.
Other duties as assigned by management.

Oversee the daily workflow of the department.

Reviews and approved timecards properly.
Partners with Food Safety and quality to promote a quality first mindset.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Food Defense Certified.
OSHA 30 Certification

Responsibilities
- Maintain Safety and Health Program that meets or exceeds corporate minimum requirements.
- Create, communicate, and identify opportunities for improvements in Corporate Safety Program.
- Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate all Subcontractors Pre-Construction Safety Planning Meetings acting as a resource for field operations with compliance on Federal (OSHA) and state as well as local safety and health regulations.
- Maintain all administrative tasks related to project specific safety documentation/recordkeeping system, including OSHA reports, management reports, training, etc.
- Conduct regularly scheduled site evaluations, follow up and tracking of corrections to deficiencies
- Attend superintendent meetings and monitor Toolbox Talks/Discussions to ensure documentation and quality
- Perform root cause and accident investigation techniques in the event of a job site accident - including collection of safety and health standard incident reporting forms and documentation working closely with local and Risk Management
- Ability to conduct in-house training on various health and safety related topics.
- Assist with OSHA inspections, compliance reviews, insurance provider reviews/audits, and other federal, state, or local agency reviews/inquiries.
Qualifications:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Maintains a SAFE jobsite, monitors safety and takes appropriate action to correct any safety issues or deficiencies.
* Oversees and manages on-site Safety Staff, which includes, Safety Coordinators, Safety Apprentices and Safety Administrative Assistants on multiple shifts.
* Purchases Safety equipment.
* Responsible for site specific safety assignments and multi-shift coverage.
* Ensures compliance with all health and safety regulations and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
* Monitors activities at construction sites. Inspects construction site daily.

* Completes incident reports and distributes and maintains files.
* Gathers toolbox reports from foreman and subcontractors.
* Receives and monitors safety reports and responds when discrepancies occur in monthly man-hour report and maintains JV OSHA Log 300.
* Monitors all accidents and maintains appropriate paperwork and files pertaining to same. Gathers Monthly Safety Hours from subcontractors for the monthly Report and forwards to Safety Director.
* Maintains and conducts Safety audits.
* Control hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through safety management and contact with field supervisory personnel.
* Supervise and conduct safety and first aid training of staff at the project sites.
* Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities. Manage investigations with employees, subcontractor personnel and CCIP carrier for each accident occurrence or violation.
* Review daily, weekly, and monthly field documentation to ensure all required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures.
* Accompany all safety, health, and insurance inspectors on walk through tours.
* Prepare written appeals for safety violation citations.
* Additional assignments on supervisor's request.
REQUIREMENTS:
* Requires at least 10 years of heavy civil construction experience.
* Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
* Familiarity with occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
* Current certification in first aid and CPR by the American Red Cross or its equivalent.
* College Degree highly preferred.
* Proficient in Microsoft 365 software.
* The Cal OSHA certifications may be earned within 6 months of hire date.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Safety Specialist reports directly to the Safety Director. The Safety Specialist will work with Operations Leadership and with warehouse associates across the building to support a strong proactive safety culture and an effective, efficient, and compliant safety program, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations to avoid accidents, while raising morale and promoting the inclusion of newcomers.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
* Maintains thorough working knowledge of S&S Activewear policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and company safety guidelines to ensure injuries are prevented and regulatory requirements are adhered to.
* Maintain and analyze safety data for trends, deficiencies, or improvements and formulate a plan to address and communicate with leadership.
* Perform and review incident investigations for all incidents and near misses.
* Review and manage workers compensation case management.
* Perform documented safety inspections and safety observations.
* Provide comprehensive safety training to new and existing employees, including refresher training and re-training upon accidents, to ensure ongoing safety awareness and adherence to standards.
* Communicate with Management, Safety Team and all employees up to date with changes in safety regulations and programs.
* Assist Operations with improvement projects by researching requirements, suggesting options, obtaining proposals, and evaluating safety compliance.
* Implement safety plans and programs while ensuring that they are being followed and consistently enforcing the safe behaviors and making sure they are being recognized.
* Implement, enforce, and oversee 6S in all areas of the warehouse.
* Develop action plans for safety initiatives, coordinate safety committee team, perform follow up on these items and communicate to management.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
* Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, Business Administration or related field is preferred.
* Graduate Safety Professional (GSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) is preferred.
* 3-5 years of experience in warehouse environment.
* Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability.
* Strong knowledge of Safety Rules & Regulations.
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
* 6S Knowledge preferred.
* Proven basic trainer/facilitator skills and the ability to create training curriculum, conduct training sessions, and instruct safety classes.
* Leadership skills, such as the ability to motivate a team and provide feedback.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
