    JOB DESCRIPTION/SUMMARY The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) will conduct required site and safety analysis, observations and prepare and implement health and safety plans for environmental and engineering projects. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Primary duties and responsibilities include (but not limited to) Prepare and implement health and safety plans for environmental and engineering projects. Act as onsite safety representative for the duration of a given contract. Serve as the SSHO person of contact to conduct the required site and safety analysis and observations. Evaluate results and make recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies. Conduct daily safety and health inspections and maintain a written log which includes area/operation inspected, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections. Conduct weekly or daily tailgate safety meetings. Attach safety inspection logs to the contractors' daily quality control report. Conduct mishap investigations and complete required reports. Investigate and resolve health and safety deficiencies. Must have extensive experience in the field or in a related area. Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the environmental and safety compliance fields. Must be able to accurately establish and keep paper and electronic records concerning equipment, funds, supplies, and other property record information. Good oral and written communication skills, reading/writing/grammar proficiency, good analytical ability, self-motivated, experienced problem solver, and moderate stress tolerance. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS The SSHO will have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in overseeing health and safety operations in conjunction with environmental investigation and remediation projects. The SSHO will also be OSHA, CHST and HAZWOPER trained and certified. The SSHO is required to have a minimum of 5 years of construction industry safety experience on similar projects Familiarity with requirements of USACE EM 385-1-1 SSHO shall have Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) certification 30-hour OSHA construction safety class within the last 5 years 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification An average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 5 years Must be a United States Citizen and able to pass DOD security checks Completed the USACE EM 385-1-1 40 hour course within the last 2 years Current CPR/First-Aid certification Competent person training as needed Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals preferred Bachelor's Degree preferred

Support development of confined space entry plan(s), critical lift plans, to include weight handling equipment certificate of compliance, severe storm plan(s), and air operations obstruction plan(s). Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EM385, OSHA, NFPA regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. Provide prompt notifications of accidents or near misses, followed accurate accident reports as a result of a thorough accident investigation. Qualifications: EM 385-1-1 40-hour Certification. Safety certifications preferred: OSHA 30, OSHA 500, OSHA 510, Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certifications are a plus. Current DoD CAC a plus. Proven experience in construction safety management. Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926 and NFPA 70E standards and construction safety practices. Experience managing safety personnel and working within a safety management system. Proficiency with spreadsheet and project management tools, with a strong preference for Smartsheet experience. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Ability to travel frequently throughout the United States. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively. Hands-on approach with a focus on onsite engagement and problem resolution. Demonstrated ability to balance a “make it happen” attitude with uncompromising safety compliance and sound judgment. Strong customer service focus.
