Education/Background Requirements:
4 years food production experience or at minimum College Degree with 3 years of relative industry experience
HACCP, SQF, Grower Safety Training Certifications required

WORK SCHEDULE / AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS
Work hours are specific to the requirements of this position and can include days, evenings, and weekends, sometimes shifts are assigned with short notice. Working extended hours required as needed. Must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling responsibilities and meeting the College's needs. Although Unity College employees are generally scheduled to work at their specifically assigned locations, there are times when travel is necessary and employees are required from time to time to attend events, meetings or work temporary assignment at any Unity College location.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job Responsibilities:
Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work.
Drive the implementation of a zero-injury culture, including implementing safety programs, ensuring all employees and contractors are properly trained and equipped to perform work safely, and auditing to ensure program effectiveness.
Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations related to occupational health and safety.
Actively engaging in the field with safety assessments conducting personal and area exposure monitoring and analyzing a wide range of safety and loss issues including life safety and hazardous materials.
Keep confidential personal and business information obtained during the exercise of industrial hygiene activities except when required by law or overriding health and safety considerations.
Establish safety policies and work practices, to ensure a safe organization that is compliant with all State, Federal and ND Paper rules and regulations.
Provide technical safety expertise to managers, supervisors and employees including program development, implementation, and execution.
Engage with external safety and industrial hygiene consultants.
Ensures that proper safety equipment and instrumentation is obtained and accessible to employees.
Ensure Mill Safety Data Sheets are current for mill process-generated chemicals.
Ensures that timely incident investigations are completed and conducts incident investigation training with mill management.
Networks with other safety, environmental and security experts across ND Paper and participates in cross-divisional meetings and teams.
Required Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Physics or related field.
2-5 years' experience, minimum 1 year experience in Industrial Hygiene.
Ability to plan, calibrate, set up and operate air pumps and direct reading air monitors.
Demonstrated experience with asbestos and lead awareness programs, including hazard recognition, employee training, and coordination of sampling or abatement activities.
Ability to make decisions under pressure for situations affecting safety of personnel or equipment.
Ability to coach employees to meet stated objectives regarding safety, clean production and sustainability.
Candidate must possess organizational, communication, problem solving, and decision-making skills and the ability follow through on multiple tasks
The position requires the ability to formulate effective recommendations and solutions and communicate these recommendations clearly to stakeholders verbally and through report writing.
Implement approved safety measures and ensure that all safety training in area of respiratory protection, confined space and Hazard communication are effectively delivered to impacted personnel.
Ability to handle multiple time sensitive projects and issues.

Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership:

5+ years of experience in health and safety oversight/programs.
Experience in a heavy industrial environment or shipyard preferred.
Specific experience in lifting and handling, rigging, fall protection, welding, lockout tags-plus, test and activation, confined space entry, industrial hygiene and / or ergonomics preferred.
Technical writing skills and knowledge of OSHA and/or industry standards preferred.
Understanding of and ability to utilize A3 and 5-Why problem solving methodologies.
Must be physically able to lift, crawl, climb, and work in confined spaces and at heights (required).
Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint required.
Ability to utilize workflow and collaboration tools such as JIRA, SharePoint, and Smartsheets.
Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

Qualifications/ Requirements

* Four or more years of experience in workplace safety in the construction industry is preferred.
* CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required.
* CHST, or ASP & STS certifications required.
* Good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are essential.
* Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
* A background in physical therapy is a plus.
