About You Summary As a member of the Transportation Safety Department, you will be responsible for monitoring and managing compliance, safety, accountability (CSA) performance and ensuring all corrective actions are taken as a result of roadside inspections. Overseeing accident investigations, along with documenting investigation findings. Initiating and maintaining all U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) mandated paperwork for the fleet. Driver hiring and maintaining qualification files in accordance with FMCSA guidelines. Conducting driver safety meetings. Interacting with Dispatch, Fleet Maintenance and Risk Management. Monitoring hours of service (HOS) compliance and provide refresher training as needed. Essential Functions The core functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Initiate and maintain all U.S. Department of Transportation mandated paperwork to include; driver qualification file, annual review, DOT physical, Commercial Driver License. Monitor and manage driver safety performance such as HOS compliance, DriveCam review and coaching, CSA compliance and ensure all corrective action is taken as a result of roadside inspections. Accident investigation, documentation and participate in determining the ruling of preventable or non-preventable, post-accident counselling, refresher training. Driver retention and new hire. Verify qualification in accordance with our driver hiring guidelines. Initiate and process all new hire paperwork, to include the Department of Transportation's PSP (Pre-Employment Screening Program), Clearing House validation and maintain driver files. Ensure regulatory compliance by actively monitoring driver's license status, medical certificates and ensure DOT random drug testing quota is met. Ensure all equipment meets regulatory requirements (registration, annual inspection, insurance and internal record keeping). Interact with dispatch personnel to ensure drivers are always in compliance with all regulations. Interact with Fleet Maintenance regarding vehicle inspections, equipment compliance, and damages. Interact with stores regarding any safety issues involving our drivers, equipment, or store property. Remedy such issues. Research motorist complaints, interact with the motorist to provide a timely response, present and confront the driver with the complaint. Research and interact with Fleet Maintenance and Accounting regarding damage to our equipment caused by third party motor carriers or vendors. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in business management, economics, finance or marketing. Certifications in Supply Chain Management, OSHA, Safety and Compliance; a plus. Minimum of 5 to 7 years of supervisory experience in Transportation Safety & Compliance Working knowledge of FMCSA Rules and Regulations, CSA and HOS Working knowledge of Accident Investigation & Reconstruction CSP certification preferred Substance Abuse Training Certification Detail oriented multi-tasker with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and transportation compliance regulations. Advanced personal computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook. Effective communication skills to include both verbal and written communication. Ability to present to varied audiences, such as executive leadership or Members. Shares information and knowledge in support of the team and organization's success. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Ability to balance prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and standing at a counter while working on a computer Ability to move efficiently between inbound and outbound work stations Ability to travel to various transportation terminal locations for site visits Ability to do yard walks and perform hands on equipment inspections Flexibility with regard to working hours, shift rotations, work locations, weekends, overtime, and holidays in a 24/7 Sunday thru Saturday operation. Split work week is required (Any 5 out of 7) and days off will be based on business need and may not include traditional Saturday/Sunday off days. What you'll be responsible for: Human Safety as a priority: Create and drive programs with people safety as a number one priority. This includes managing near misses, accidents & injuries, and workers' compensation programs. Hazard identification and mitigation: Identify, assess, and mitigate workplace, chemical, and electrical hazards through targeted controls (e.g., spill response, lockout/tagout). Investigate incidents and near-misses, document root causes, and drive preventative actions. Hands-on safety leadership: Conduct regular facility audits and risk assessments; partner directly with operators, contractors, and leaders to implement corrective actions and continuously improve safety conditions that work best for our size, stage and business needs Regulatory compliance: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.). Maintain accurate OSHA record keeping (300, 300A, 301) and serve as the primary point of contact for inspections and regulatory visits. Food Safety: Lead, conduct, and work cross-functionally with all sites & teams for food safety compliance & certifications. Environmental management: Oversee waste management programs and environmental compliance initiatives to minimize environmental impact and meet permit and regulatory requirements. Emergency preparedness: Develop, implement, and test emergency response plans through drills and readiness assessments. Training and engagement: Develop and deliver safety and environmental training, including emergency procedures, chemical handling, and electrical safety, to foster a strong culture of safety awareness and accountability. Cross-functional execution: Partner with Operations, Engineering, and other teams to project manage and deliver safety improvements, including equipment upgrades, facility layout changes, and infrastructure fixes. Metrics and Continuous Improvement: Own and monitor key safety metrics (e.g., LTIR, TRIR), analyze trends, and implement proactive measures to reduce incidents and improve performance. Executive Reporting: Provide clear, data-driven EHS updates to operational and executive leadership, escalating critical risks and tracking progress against corrective actions. What We Look For in an EHS Manager: * Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). * Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in EHS roles, with demonstrated ability to create safety programs, and manage regulatory compliance, audits, hazard mitigation, and emergency response. * Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including hands-on experience managing OSHA recordkeeping (300, 300A, 301) and supporting inspections. * Preferred experience in agricultural production, food manufacturing, controlled environment agriculture, warehousing, or similar regulated operational settings. * Familiarity with third-party audits and safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, SQF, BRC, GlobalG.A.P.) is a plus. * Experience supporting automation, robotics, or advanced equipment environments is an advantage. Additional Details & Physical Requirements: * This on-site role is located out of our Philipsburg, NJ facility with required travel to our Jersey City, NJ facility one to two times a week. * A personal vehicle is required for inter-facility travel; mileage will be reimbursed. * This role will require response on nights and weekends as needed or escalations or emergency needs * Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 30 lbs; climbing ladders; crouching, kneeling, reaching, and stretching; and performing tasks requiring hand dexterity. * Comfortable working in an active, non-sedentary environment for extended periods (up to 5-6 hours) and in cold storage areas as required. * Must not be allergic to bees.
