Manager, Health & SafetyThe Health & Safety Manager is responsible for achieving an effective and efficient approach to managing safety, risk, industrial hygiene, and medical surveillance across the Toledo Refinery. Supervise work activities of personal safety, industrial hygiene, and medical surveillance. Direct the H&S staff regarding the appropriate response to agency inspections, information requests, NOVs, etc. and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented. Train and develop both hourly and salaried subordinates to ensure a capable, professional workforce. Administer company policy within the department. Ensure refinery administrative procedures, discipline, safety policies, management practices and labor contracts are administered consistently and fairly. Model teamwork with other department managers. Maintain a professional relationship with the union hourly workforce to promote safety awareness and work to resolve safety issues and concerns. Maintain and improve the performance of H&S department personnel. This includes organizational changes to meet changing needs, hiring of new personnel, and administering a personnel performance improvement program that includes goal setting, performance evaluations, and counseling to achieve high standards of performance. Interface with all appropriate regulatory bodies. Serve as the refinery spokesperson with health and safety regulatory agencies regarding health and safety issues. Develop the department expense budget and continuously monitor these costs to anticipate and control possible variances. Interpret OSHA other pertinent regulations and develop programs and policies to ensure compliance. Serve as a resource/consultant to staff and field management regarding the development of new capital projects to ensure that health and safety standards are met. Interpret local, state and federal health and safety regulations; determine applicability of these regulations and develop/implement appropriate compliance procedures and processes. Provide support in emergency response events as needed and assist in incident investigations as needed. Develop, direct and establish a safety program and safety practices in department. Constantly strive to prevent accidents and to provide a safe, healthy work environment. Responsible for overseeing the industrial hygiene program to ensure compliance with established industry practices to minimize company risk. Oversee the refinery medical surveillance programs, identify required medical surveillance based on exposure potential. Coordinate various internal auditing processes to ensure compliance with standards and procedures. Serve as the OSHA expert and decision maker regarding the recordability of injuries. Ensure all required record keeping and reports are made per regulatory requirements. Serve as the refinery spokesperson with health and safety regulatory agencies regarding health and safety issues. * Develop the department expense budget and continuously monitor these costs to anticipate and control possible variances. * Interpret OSHA other pertinent regulations and develop programs and policies to ensure compliance. * Serve as a resource/consultant to staff and field management regarding the development of new capital projects to ensure that health and safety standards are met. * Interpret local, state and federal health and safety regulations; determine applicability of these regulations and develop/implement appropriate compliance procedures and processes. * Provide support in emergency response events as needed and assist in incident investigations as needed. * Develop, direct and establish a safety program and safety practices in department. The plant Wellbeing, Health and Safety (WHS) Specialist is responsible to implement and administer standardized WHS processes to ensure compliance to Federal, State, Provincial and Local regulations and Corporate Policies and Procedures. This position will help achieve world class status and impact corporate savings through the elimination of occupational injuries/illnesses, property damage and improvement of production efficiency as well as safeguarding the health and safety of all employees. This specific position will focus on health and safety compliance, Stellantis Production Way (SPW) safety activities, Safety Management System (ISO 45001), and health and safety improvement goals. The WHS Specialist will report to the Plant WHS Lead and be responsible for and not limited to: * Implement WHS training programs and training assessments to ensure required training is identified and conducted * Conduct regular audits of WHS processes and necessary follow-up to ensure compliance and advise plant leadership and corporate WHS staff of findings * Analyze injury/illness experience including ergonomics, identify/track injury correlation, determine root causes, implement corrective action and communicate this information to plant leadership and corporate WHS * Support new equipment programs at the concept stage to ensure that WHS design specifications and regulations are included * Manage routine safety reports including data acquisition, documentation, record keeping, monitoring, review, and approval * Coordinate communication of WHS regulatory inspection activity with plant leadership * Lead WHS projects to improve WHS key performance metrics * Support the implementation and maintenance of the plant's safety management system to meet ISO 45001 and SPW safety requirements Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Engineering, Science or related field * Strong understanding of Federal, State, Provincial and Local regulations and requirements * Willingness to work on any shift and additional hours as required * Effective written and verbal communication skills * Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills * Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite and / or other software Preferred Qualifications: * 2+ years of Safety, Engineering or similar experience in a Manufacturing environment * Safety related professional certifications (e.g. CSP, CIH) * Master's degree in Safety, Engineering, Science or related field * Automotive or manufacturing experience
