The Korte Company is seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) willing to travel up to 100% for commercial/government construction projects to maintain safety for every aspect of the project. Safety is critical to the success of our construction projects and this position will be the key person responsible for adherence to our safety standards. The ideal candidate will provide proactive, visible leadership in developing the safety culture on the project site. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Conduct and document daily safety and health inspections * Conduct mishap investigations and complete required reports * Maintain safety reference materials on the jobsite * Attend all preparatory and periodic in-progress meetings * Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements and inspections * Conduct new employee safety orientation * Lead on-site safety meetings and toolbox talks * Perform project hazard analysis and maintain hazard communication programs * Verify safety training of all workers * Traveling/relocation will be required MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The characteristics listed below are representative of those sought to perform this job successfully. * 30 hour OSHA certification training within last 5 years * Proof of 8 hours or more of formal safety training each year for the last 5 years * must be able to provide dates and hours * First Aid and CPR certified * 24 hour Competent Person for Fall Protection training that complies with EM 385-1-1 section 21 (Current within 2 years) * Certificate of training on the following: * Excavations * Scaffolding * Fall protection * Hazardous energy * Confined space * Health Hazard recognition * Personal Protective Equipment * Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, multi-tasking, communication and conflict management skills * Computer knowledge in sending emails, daily reports, construction look-ahead schedules, and iPad use * Strong work ethic with a passion to fulfill commitments * Remarkable enthusiasm * Sincere obligation to client satisfaction * The ability to speak Spanish is a plus EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE Qualified applicants will have: * Corp of Engineers EM 385-1-1 experience * 5 years of experience on similar construction projects - must be able to provide dates and descriptions of previous projects including dollar amounts * Experience on large ground-up; DOD/USACE; vertical projects of 15M+ preferred * BCSP certification as a Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and/or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred. This professional and technical position is responsible for developing, monitoring and administering the Utilities Department's health and safety initiatives and training program. All programs must adhere to applicable federal, state and local safety, health and environmental regulations as well as industry standards. This position develops, implements, and manages safety and training policies, procedures and directives. Responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of the Department's safety and training programs. Serves as the Department Safety Officer and liaison with the County's Risk Management Division regarding County safety policies, objectives and training initiatives. Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description. Training may include other County Departments. Provides oversight and management of all technical training programs for field personnel to stay compliant as well as developing, supervising, and coordinating safety training programs that improve safety awareness and safe work performance. Manages a Safety and Training Database; prepares and submits reports on the status of various safety programs as required. Provides safety training within area of expertise. Research, collect, and disseminate information on available training sources, methods, costs, and program evaluation and establish and maintain relationships with training partners. Consults with all Utilities leadership, the County's Safety Officer and other Departments about the design and use of equipment, work facilities and safety programs. Engages Utilities staff directly regarding safety hazards and best practices. Initiates, verifies and processes offsite training documentation requests and as well as facilitates travel arrangements to training sites as needed. Inspects County facilities to identify existing or potential hazards and recommends corrective or preventative measures as appropriate. Reviews Federal, State, Local laws and regulations such as OSHA, DOT, EPA, DEP, and NFPA. safety regulations and implements procedures to ensure compliance. Represents the County in community and industry safety groups and programs. Develops and maintains the Utilities Department's safety plan and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to safety. Additional Duties Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties. Associate degree in safety, health, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field applicable to safety and/or training as well as three (3) years' experience directly involved in safety and training programs is required. Must possess the ability to obtain certifications relating to safety and training which includes accident investigation principles and techniques. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Must have excellent time management and organizational skills. Must possess a high level of computer literacy and ability. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Ability to report on progress of safety programs and use statistical methods to analyze accidents occurring on or involving County property. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and deliver presentations to groups. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver License.
