Manages training and education initiatives, ensuring employees are aware of policies and regulations and implements performance improvement plans for repeated offenders. Partner with corporate safety and facility management to advance safety leadership skills among management and teams to anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous behaviors, work practices and conditions. Effectively guide, educate and train internal operational partners on safety best practices and policies/procedures with the goal of continually reducing the onset of injuries and improving site safety performance. Serve as a technical expert on hazard recognition, assessment & counter-measuring in a variety of industrial environments including but not limited to Warehousing, Grounds, and Industrial/Technical Cleaning operations. Coordinate compliance programs/procedures and perform audits. Coordination and participation of Leadec's incident investigation process serving primarily as a facilitator and technical advisor. Serve as liaison for Leadec under their direction with regulatory agencies. Assist and advise in the selection of personal protective equipment. Coordinate and assist with industrial hygiene monitoring programs. Maintain safety training/medical records in accordance with legal requirements and company policy. Ensure all incident/injury reports are submitted properly in accordance with legal requirements and company policy. Serve as primary liaison between sites and the Workers' Compensation Manager with regards to injury (Workers' Compensation) claims. Health and Safety Audit Procedures Develop and implement a structured EHS audit program, including: - Internal audits of facilities, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with ISO 45001 and applicable regulations. - Scheduling and conducting periodic audits across all operational sites. - Documenting findings, identifying non-conformities, and tracking corrective actions. - Collaborating with department leads to ensure timely resolution of audit findings. - Reporting audit outcomes to leadership and integrating results into continuous improvement initiatives. Incident Investigation & Corrective Action Lead investigations of incidents and near-misses, identify root causes, and ensure timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Training & Culture Building Develop and deliver health and safety training programs. Coach employees and leaders to foster a strong safety culture and promote continuous improvement. Reporting & Communication Partner with the Type One Safety Committee to compile and present quarterly safety reports to the Board of Directors. Provide monthly safety updates to the company and maintain clear documentation of safety activities. Support Top Management in leading Management Reviews. Emergency Preparedness Develop and maintain emergency response plans, conduct drills, and ensure readiness across all operational sites. What you'll need: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety (preferred), Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Minimum 10 years of experience in a safety leadership role, preferably in manufacturing, engineering, or high-risk environments. Experience in environmental, health, and safety training in industrial environments. In-depth knowledge of ISO 45001, EHS regulations, and other relevant EHS standards. Strong analytical skills with experience in risk assessment, safety audits, and incident investigation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels. Certification in safety (e.g., CSP, ASP, OSHA 30) is highly desirable. The SSHO is responsible for implementing VALIANT's corporate safety program, interfacing with government safety representatives, and ensuring site-wide adherence to contract-specific safety requirements.
