We are conducting a confidential search for an Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Manager with a company that is a global supplier of industrial components to the automotive, commercial vehicle, and off-road vehicle markets. This is a direct-hire position and it is based around Defiance, OH. Key responsibilities will include: Developing and maintaining a variety of safety and environmental programs, policies and procedures that will ensure all associates are in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including OSHA and EPA standards. Developing and implementing a program to reduce occupational injuries and illnesses, including area assessments, injury investigations and clear, measurable goals. Correcting working conditions, using knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, chemistry, psychology, and safety standards, develops loss control programs, and devises methods to evaluate safety progresses. Assessing share, and leverage HSE best practices across sites. Establishing, implementing, and maintaining all Environmental and Safety Management systems in accordance with ISO 14001/ISO 18001, reporting to top management on performance, and recommend improvements. Serving as the interface between local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, corporate and any insurance carrier representatives in order to ensure plant compliance. The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for achieving an effective and efficient approach to managing safety, risk, industrial hygiene, and medical surveillance across the Toledo Refinery. * Supervise work activities of personal safety, industrial hygiene, and medical surveillance. * Direct the H&S staff regarding the appropriate response to agency inspections, information requests, NOVs, etc. and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented. * Train and develop both hourly and salaried subordinates to ensure a capable, professional workforce. * Administer company policy within the department. Ensure refinery administrative procedures, discipline, safety policies, management practices and labor contracts are administered consistently and fairly. * Model teamwork with other department managers. * Maintain a professional relationship with the union hourly workforce to promote safety awareness and work to resolve safety issues and concerns. * Maintain and improve the performance of H&S department personnel. This includes organizational changes to meet changing needs, hiring of new personnel, and administering a personnel performance improvement program that includes goal setting, performance evaluations, and counseling to achieve high standards of performance. * Interface with all appropriate regulatory bodies. Serve as the refinery spokesperson with health and safety regulatory agencies regarding health and safety issues. * Develop the department expense budget and continuously monitor these costs to anticipate and control possible variances. * Interpret OSHA other pertinent regulations and develop programs and policies to ensure compliance. * Serve as a resource/consultant to staff and field management regarding the development of new capital projects to ensure that health and safety standards are met. * Interpret local, state and federal health and safety regulations; determine applicability of these regulations and develop/implement appropriate compliance procedures and processes. * Provide support in emergency response events as needed and assist in incident investigations as needed. * Develop, direct and establish a safety program and safety practices in department.
