The Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all aspects of the site's EHS programs at the Pittsburgh, PA facility. This role ensures full compliance with environmental regulations, occupational health standards, and safety initiatives while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. The EHS Manager serves as a key liaison between plant operations, contractors, regulatory agencies, and leadership to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical and regulatory expertise to ensure occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance at the site.
Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and processes to maintain safe working conditions and ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
Lead and cultivate a strong safety culture across the plant, including oversight of contractors and third-party workers on-site.
Collaborate with plant leadership to identify EHS risks, recommend corrective actions, and implement solutions to improve performance and reduce incidents.
Guide the development and implementation of EHS procedures, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA), incident investigation protocols, hazard communication, and ergonomic assessments.
Facilitate safety meetings, JSA reviews, and employee training sessions related to health, safety, and environmental practices.
Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and drive preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
Maintain and submit all required regulatory reports, including OSHA-required documentation.
Initiate and manage workers' compensation claims through resolution in coordination with HR and relevant stakeholders.
Participate in capital project reviews to ensure environmental, safety, and health factors are fully considered.
Support emergency response planning, including organizing and conducting annual drills and training.
Oversee the site's Exposure Reduction Program (ERP) and other risk mitigation initiatives.
Monitor and maintain environmental compliance programs, including air and water permits, mining regulations, and waste management.
Ensure timely and accurate submission of environmental reports to local, state, and federal agencies (e.g., EPA, OSHA).
Coordinate with regional EHS teams to ensure regulatory alignment and process consistency across the organization.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
8-10 years of progressive experience in EHS management within a production or industrial setting.
Proven knowledge of environmental and occupational safety regulations and compliance strategies.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders.
Self-motivated and highly organized with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving capabilities, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in chemicals production, raw material manufacturing, mineral processing, or heavy industrial environments.

About the role

Reporting to the Facility Manager and the Area or Regional Safety Manager, the Safety Program Manager (SPM) will have a varying range of responsibilities depending on the size and complexity of the plant, number of employees and projects assigned. The SPM role will span strategic, tactical, and transformational safety and health management activities. As the SPM, you will be responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance, training and implementation of Reworld's safety policies, accident investigation and documentation, OSHA VPP efforts, and management of the other safety program initiatives. In addition to managing the facility's safety program, the SPM will oversee the employee training program, and assist with the daily execution of the facility safety and health activities.
The Safety Program Manager will also be called upon to contribute to the broader facility management team and provide leadership to process improvement and best practice deployment, demonstrating the right values and behaviors with high emotional intelligence in working with a disbursed stakeholder base, often on critical schedule projects. You may be asked to help mentor or assist other SPMs at other locations or to help develop and implement corporate initiatives.

Actively monitor work safety in the field on a very frequent basis. Conduct formal and informal safety reviews and follow-up reporting. When necessary, stop potential unsafe behaviors in the field when observed and coach employees on the proper method. Also provide positive recognition for safe behaviors.
Work with plant personnel to secure accident scenes when appropriate, ensure the medical treatment of affected employee and/or contract employee, and investigate near miss, first aid, recordable injuries, on site vehicle incidents or incidents related to plant vehicles, and general safety concerns. Assist/Coordinate recommendations for corrective actions and track to completion. Manage accident investigations, root cause analyses, and related reporting.
Work with plant personnel and contractors to assure fire system inspection, testing, and functionality.
Primary contact with the plant's health clinic. Schedule annual physical exams, hearing tests, and/or respirator evaluations.
Contribute to improvements in lean, Six Sigma and other quantitative and qualitative approaches to drive workplace process improvements.

The base salary range for this position is $146,000-$234,000 per year. Aurora's pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate's starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions.
