    The Risk and Safety Manager is part of the Emergency Management Department and reports to the Director of Talent Management. This person ensures the safeguarding of employees, vendors, and the general public through the development and implementation of sound risk management and safety plans, including compliance programs for the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). This role also collaborates with the person managing the County property, automobile, and general liability insurance areas to maximize safety and cost-effective execution in these areas. Essential Functions These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position. Identifies potential areas of vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provided general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future. This could include periodic audits and reviews of risk and compliance for safety and the ADA. Works with the Finance Department to oversee risk-related issues concerning property, automobile, and general liability insurance for the county. Works with other Departments as appropriate to develop an effective training program, including introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers regarding expectations and standards regarding Safety and Accident Prevention. Provides reports on a regular basis, and as directed or requested, to keep leadership informed of the operation and progress of risk, safety, and compliance efforts. Provides leadership for the Safety Committee, as well as in-house safety initiatives and accident/injury investigations. Works cooperatively with the Benefits Manager to provide safety guidance/training on worker's compensation; reviews claim reports and statistics to analyze county safety and reduce liability. Facilitate and oversee internal safety, ADA, and risk audit; providing reports and findings to ensure basic compliance and best practices are being utilized. Partner with ACCG and other entities to ensure County risk, safety and ADA programs are compliant and maximized. This includes but is not limited to actively seeking opportunities, gaining leadership support, and implementing cost-saving initiatives related to providing improved employee safety and ADA compliance, developing and enhancing relationships with safety service providing entities (i.e., ACCG, hospitals, imaging centers, etc.) Compiles analyze and interpret statistical data related to near-misses, incidents, and injuries. Make suggestions for improvement. Compile, submit and maintain all required safety reporting and postings. Consult with legal resources as needed regarding safety compliance, ADA, or risk-related issues. Additional Duties: Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety laws and regulations. Ability to lead, influence and guide indirect reports, personnel, and others toward goals Experience interacting with regulatory agencies, safety, and legal counsel; as well as insurance/ benefits providers. Ability to work successfully and productively with limited direction, displaying self-motivation, planning, and time-management skills. Knowledge and ability to develop and implement safety and compliance management tracking systems, prevention techniques, audits, investigations, and evaluations. Ability to prioritize tasks within a dynamic fast-paced environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent computer skills; fully functional in Microsoft Office. Working Conditions Incumbents must be willing to maintain a flexible schedule which may include non-traditional hours and occasional travel time within and outside of the county. Individuals must be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crawl, push/pull and lift up to 25 lbs. Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and in occasional adverse conditions. Must wear job-related personal protective equipment. Occasional work at varying heights and enclosed confined spaces. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Risk, Human Resources, or related field. Three (3) to five (5) years' experience in risk management, safety, human resources, or related field. OR have a combination of education, training, and work experience that is equivalent to #1 and #2 above that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Valid Georgia Driver's License. Preference LGR MS/ACCG Safety Coordinator Certification. Professional safety/risk management designation such as CSP, ARM, PRM, ALM, etc. Ability to work independently, prioritize and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to make presentations to a wide variety of audiences. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
