The Enviromental Health & Safety Specialist is an integral part of our Environmental Health & Safety team based out of our US - Sarasota, FL site.
Compensation range for this position is $75,000.00 -$95,000.00
Position Details
The Enviromental, Health, and Safety Specialist will develop and implement policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment as well as advance environmentally sustainable activities. Also ensuring compliance with corporate, local, state and federal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the facility.
Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
Ensures compliance with safety and environmental procedures for OSHA, EPA, FLDEP, NFPA, and local requirements.
Knowledgeable in OSHA's Injury and Illness recordkeeping and reporting requirements that include OSHA 300A form, Incident Rate and DART Rate.
Knowledgeable in GHS Hazardous Communication Program for Safety Data Sheets and Labeling requirements.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HEALTH AND SAFETY TECHNICIAN
As a Health and Safety Technician, you are passionate about keeping everyone safe and near misses to a minimum. You carefully review, investigate, and analyze the health, safety, and environmental sustainability of our shipyard and construction workplaces, ensuring that HSE regulations are appropriately adhered to. You perform field monitoring and sampling, including the detection of light, noise, visual emissions, and gas. After performing on-site risk assessments and audits, you implement corrective actions.
Under your watch, PPE is always available for use. You conduct excellent training to mitigate risks, including new hire orientations and respiratory fit testing. Your team-building efforts help to build trust with field employees, management, subcontractors, and clients. You keep complete, detailed, and up-to-date records. As a first responder to emergencies, you provide first aid and CPR when necessary. You get great satisfaction out of implement a safety-first culture that results in a healthy environment for both our team and the community!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A HEALTH AND SAFETY TECHNICIAN
High school diploma or equivalent
30 hours of OSHA training
First aid/CPR certification
One year of HSE-related work experience
Experience implementing safety processes based on broader organizational goals
Experience with gas detection equipment
Knowledge about applicable OHSA, EPA, USCG, NFPA state and federal standards, regulations, laws, and orders
Ability to recognize risks inherent to the shipyard industry
Ability and willingness to enter confined spaces to perform shipyard competent person checks
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat products
Experience is a plus but not necessary, willing to train.
