Industrial Safety & Health Supervisor - Enforcement The Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards' Workplace Safety and Health Program is an OSHA State Plan with jurisdiction for public sector workplaces. Our mission is to promote workers' safety and health and prevent work-related injury and illness. The State Plan operates enforcement, consultation, and whistleblower programs. The Enforcement Staff Supervisor reports to the Program Supervisor, and works closely with the Consultation and Enforcement/Whistleblower Staff Supervisors. Your Potential Duties: Primary duty will be to conduct safety and health inspections in public sector workplaces to prevent work-related injury and illness, promote compliance with OSHA regulations, and coach employers to implement safety management systems. Learn more about this role: How YOU Will Make an Impact Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all transportation regulations that impact PGT's daily operations and effectively communicate current DOT and PGT rules/guidelines to staff and drivers. Analyze and evaluate any new laws, regulations, changes, or interpretations that may impact PGT's business practices. Conduct regular assessments of PGT terminal locations to evaluate their operations and enforce PGT's safety policies and regulations. Build relationships with PGT customers and visit customer locations and job sites to confirm the safe loading/unloading of commodities. Provide support and guidance to PGT drivers, ensuring compliance with all DOT and PGT rules and regulations. Review load securement photos by phone and inspect vehicles and trailers for any potential DOT violations. Coach PGT drivers through performance improvement plans, prioritizing the safety of PGT drivers, customers, and the general public. Foster positive working relationships and collaborate with other company departments to address any driver/safety-related issues promptly and effectively. What YOU Need to Succeed Previous experience in transportation/trucking. Strong interest in safety. Relationship-building skills to forge personal connections with customers, vendors, employees, and truck drivers. Spanish language proficiency Ability to travel to customer locations, job sites, PGT terminals, and other driver rest areas. Job Purpose Support company safety programs and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Develop procedures and organized efforts for identifying workplace hazards and reducing accidents, as well as conduct employee safety training Essential Functions Maintain a safe working environment and ensure personal safe working practices by all employees Ensure all employees comply with job safety requirements and regulations per company policies Work closely with plant leadership to design and implement safety and health programs Understand federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitor for regulatory changes; create, update, and audit policies and programs to ensure compliance and effectiveness Provide safety and health support and information to all departments to eliminate potential injuries/exposure and ensure compliance to safety and health legislation Maintain records of safety incidents and near misses; monitor injuries and illnesses for trends Ensure incident investigations are conducted per company standard; train department supervisors on proper incident investigation techniques Complete necessary reports, make recommendations, and follow through with corrective action to mitigate further risk Provide guidance for the maintenance and testing of all life safety systems; initiate and conduct all life safety drills (fire and severe weather) Maintain safety supplies, personal protective equipment, and first aid items Work closely with HR to assist with return to work programs, staff training and development Facilitate company safety training in accordance with corporate training calendar Update and maintain safety training matrix Manage safety shoe incentive program Comply with all food safety requirements, training, policies, and procedures Perform other job-related duties as assigned Qualifications (Education, Experience, Competencies) • Associate's degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field, or work experience equivalent • 2+ years of experience in safety management systems and accident investigation, preferably in a manufacturing environment • Basic knowledge of regulatory requirements for federal and state programs, processes, and program implementation strategies desired • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications • Ability to conduct and maintain training programs using lecture, PowerPoint, or practical methods • Strong problem-solving skills • Ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and maintain high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment • Self-motivated, goal oriented, quality driven, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision • Willing to work varied shifts as needed Requirements (Physical, Work Environment, Mental) FREQUENCY KEY (based on a standard 40-hour work week) N = Never O = Occasional 0-2.5 hours/day (1% - 33% of time) C = Constant 5.5+ hours/day (over 66% of time) R = Rarely (less than 1 hour/week) F = Frequent 2.5-5.5 hours/day (34% - 66% of time) California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Washington, and New York Residents Only: The hourly range for this role is $21.00 to $26.00 per hour.
