Worker's Justice Project (WJP) (workersjustice.org) was founded in 2010 to address the racial and economic injustices that low-wage immigrant workers face in New York City by building collective power to win institutional change. WJP runs two long-standing worker's centers in Brooklyn. We promote justice and opportunity for low-wage immigrant workers in New York City by pushing for systematic enforcement and expansion of workplace protections, which include labor and occupational health and safety standards while advocating for industry-specific efforts to improve working conditions. WJP also offers skills-building training to workers in health & safety and industry-specific areas, and we educate immigrant communities about their rights in the workplace and how to exercise those rights. Responsibilities The Health and Safety Specialist works in both Worker's Justice Project worker center locations in Williamsburg and Sunset Park (Brooklyn, NY). WJP is seeking a safety and health specialist to develop, coordinate and conduct safety and health training and campaigns in New York City for construction workers and other low-wage workers. In addition to conducting training, the job includes outreach to workers, community-based organizations and distribution of appropriate safety and health materials. (WSFSSH) is a community-based organization whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting which enhances the independence and dignity of each person. WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides housing for low- income older persons, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness. POSITION DESCRIPTION Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager and the overall supervision of the Director of Property and energy Conservation Management, the Fire Safety, HVAC Energy Systems and Property Manager will assist with specific projects and tasks at each building and work closely with all supers to carry out these special projects and specific tasks within the buildings and on the grounds. Under the supervision of the Construction Manager, the Fire Safety, HVAC, Energy Systems and Facility Manager will be responsible to ensure that all systems are working properly in a timely manner before heating season sets-in. About the Opportunity Reporting to the Senior Director for Global Site Security within Northeastern University's Global Safety & Policing Department, the NY Campus Safety Director (CSD) role leads the day-to-day operations, develops the campus safety team, and oversees the security standards across the campus.
