Ensure and maintain a log of each subcontractor toolbox safety meeting. Review each subcontractor's safety program and ensure that it meets or exceeds the project safety program requirements. Ensure that each subcontractor designates a safety representative that is properly trained in subcontractor's scope of work and has the proper authority to correct safety issues. Conduct regular daily and weekly jobsite inspections and complete the safety checklist noting safety violations and corrective actions. Record, notify and prepare written report of any violations or unsafe practices to subcontractors for immediate correction actions. Stop at once any violation or unsafe acts or practices. Assist the Project Superintendent in establishing and implementing proper fire prevention, evacuation, and fire control procedures. Investigate all incidents and generate proper reports. Establish and maintain all required safety records. Conduct a monthly overview safety meeting and attend project staff meetings to brief on safety issues. Perform other duties as necessary. Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements. Maintain a list of hazardous chemicals on site and their material Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Maintain a weekly list of high hazard activities involving energy, equipment, excavation, entry into confined space, and work at height, and be prepared to discuss details during QC Meetings. The Safety Trainer Coordinator - Civil Construction & Railroad Track Maintenance is responsible for promoting and maintaining a proactive safety culture across all field operations. This position develops, coordinates, and delivers safety training programs ensuring compliance with OSHA, FRA, and company standards for heavy civil construction, rail, and maintenance-of-way activities. The role partners closely with project managers, field supervisors, and craft employees to ensure every team member is properly trained, competent, and prepared to work safely in a high-risk environment. Key Responsibilities Develop, schedule, and deliver safety training programs for employees and contractors (e.g., OSHA, FRA, HAZCOM, PPE, HAZWOPER, First Aid & CPR, Confined Space, and Heavy Equipment Safety). Coordinate new hire safety orientations and refresher courses. Maintain accurate records of all safety training, certifications, and qualifications. Verify that checklists are being used and signed off prior to the placement of concrete, steel and other similar items of work. • Assigns Risk Assessment Codes to individual job/work orders and stops work if necessary to resolve matters that affect safety and/or inhibit the logical progress of work. • SSHO shall be present on-site, at a minimum, during normal duty hours and serve as the primary point of contact for the contractor's safety management program and shall be responsible for all aspects of the management and administration of the program. • SSHO shall be responsible for the designation, assignment, coordination and monitoring of Alternate SSHO's, Designated Representatives (DR) and Competent Person(CP) as required by the contractor's approved AHA, especially when work assigned must be accomplished outside of normal duty hours.
