Job Responsibilities
Hands-on development and implementation of client EHS programs, including, Chemical Safety, Hazard Communication, Emergency Preparedness, and Additional OSHA-specific safety programs as needed.

The Director, Drug Safety Operations/Pharmacovigilance (PV) will lead and oversee safety reporting activities across clinical programs, with a primary focus on managing and coordinating pharmacovigilance deliverables with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) and consultants. This role ensures compliance with global regulatory requirements, company SOPs, and high-quality execution of safety reporting obligations. This position will act as the key liaison between internal stakeholders and CRO partners and consultants to drive operational excellence and regulatory compliance in pharmacovigilance activities. Responsibilities:
Lead ongoing safety review and signal detection, evaluation, and management activities for development assets
Supports build out of safety analytics and reporting infrastructure, such as developing standard procedures and templates
Author, review, and approve aggregate safety reports, including DSURs, PBRERs/PSURs, and ad hoc safety assessments.
Serve as the lead/coordinator and key contributor for internal Safety Review Committees or other safety governance bodies at the trial and asset level.
Provide expert safety science input for key regulatory and clinical documents, such as protocols, informed consents, Investigator's Brochures, Clinical Study Reports, and integrated summaries of safety
Strategizing and drafting of responses to regulatory inquiries on safety issues inclusive of defining MedDRA search strategy
Supports activities related to new drug applications and other regulatory filings
Represent drug safety at regulatory inspections i.e. MHRA, FDA, EMA, etc
Serve as the primary point of contact and relationship manager for outsourced PV CRO vendor(s), ensuring a collaborative and effective partnership.
Oversee CRO vendor budget, review invoices, and participate in contract renewals and negotiations.
Establish, monitor, and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and quality metrics to ensure the CRO's adherence to timelines, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
Provide oversight of the CRO's case processing (ICSR) and regulatory reporting activities, ensuring all safety data is handled with the highest level of accuracy and compliance.
Supports safety database and clinical database adjudication
May lead gap analysis to ensure alignment with changes in global regulations
Requirements:
Advanced degree in a biologic/medical/clinical/nursing field required (PharmD, Nurse Practitioner, Ph.D.)
At least 8 + years' experience in drug safety and risk management within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or CRO industry. Experience working in a start-up environment is desirable.
Deep knowledge and understanding of US and EU safety regulations pre-and post-marketing
Demonstrated expertise in signal detection, risk management, and authoring aggregate safety reports for both investigational and marketed products
Strong experience with clinical development including risk/benefit analysis and safety assessment
Experience directly managing CROs, PV service providers, or other outsourced vendors
Experience successfully leading or playing a key role in regulatory authority interactions and inspections.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, public health, occupational safety and health or related field from an accredited institution
Four or more years of related experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
Must be able to walk through a large manufacturing environment
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Constantly communicating with others to exchange information.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Majority of work is performed in a manufacturing environment with noise levels within safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions.

Summary:
The Laboratory Safety Specialist I (LSS) in Northeastern University's Office of Academic & Research Safety (OARS) is tasked with maintaining day-to-day activities associated with the Laboratory Safety Program. Reporting to the Lab Safety Program Manager, the LSS will evaluate compliance activities, assist with collaboratively executing lab safety programs, and encouraging continuous process improvement efforts at all levels of academic and research safety. Collaborates with Environmental Compliance and Occupational Safety (ECOS) and academic units at all levels.
Responsibilities
Review research protocols for hazardous processes and write risk assessments
Assist with the development and delivery of safety training
Audit research and teaching laboratories
Assist with ensuring compliance with OSHA, NIH, EPA, and other regulatory requirements
Collaborates closely with building safety managers and relevant safety teams-including biosafety and radiation safety-to support academic and research programs on campus
Coordinate with ECOS on hazardous waste management
Assist principal investigators with chemical inventory and storage requirements
Document and update safety procedures and guidelines
Participate in and assist with laboratory safety programs
Participate in the OARS Emergency Response Program on a rotating basis as a cross-trained OARS Responder. Will be required to carry a cell phone and occasionally respond to emergencies during non-business hours
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in one of the physical sciences, life sciences, environmental science, engineering, applied health science, or other applicable degree
Minimum of two years of experience applying federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and safety practices to laboratory operations
Demonstrated knowledge of environmental and hazardous material/waste principles
Ability to understand and interpret complex written regulations and technical reports
Excellent communication skills to effectively work with and appropriately influence safety behavior
Ability to be medically qualified to wear respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment as well as lift 50 lbs.
Preferred:
Master's degree in one of the above fields
Four years of experience in regulatory and safety practices
Minimum two years of experience in an environmental health and safety office (or equivalent) in a lab safety role
Experience evaluating research protocols and hazardous procedures for safety and compliance issues
Experience with process safety and process hazard analysis
Experience with safety data management platforms such as SciSure
Certified Safety Profession, Certified Hazardous Material Manager, or related

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Competencies)

Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills •
