Job Purpose: The Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting and advancing workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and injury prevention within Casper's Ice Cream manufacturing operations. This role partners with production, maintenance, quality, and leadership teams to promote a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA, food manufacturing safety standards, and company policies. This position is hands-on, visible on the plant floor, and focused on proactive risk reduction, employee engagement, and continuous improvement. Essential Job Duties (include but not limited to): Safety & Compliance Support compliance with OSHA, state, and local safety regulations applicable to food manufacturing. Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments throughout the facility. Assist with development, implementation, and maintenance of safety programs (LOTO, machine guarding, PPE, ergonomics, chemical safety, confined space, etc.). Maintain accurate safety documentation, logs, permits, and training records. Incident Management Investigate workplace injuries, near misses, and safety incidents. Conduct root cause analyses and recommend corrective and preventive actions. Track and trend safety metrics (TRIR, DART, near misses) and report findings to leadership. Support workers' compensation reporting and follow-up as needed. Training & Engagement Deliver and coordinate safety training for new hires, contractors, and current employees. Support toolbox talks, safety huddles, and shift-level safety communications. Coach supervisors and employees on safe work practices and hazard recognition. Promote employee participation in safety programs and continuous improvement efforts. Plant & Equipment Safety Partner with maintenance and engineering on equipment safety reviews and improvements. Support safe startup, shutdown, and changeover processes. Participate in capital project reviews to ensure safety considerations are built in. Assist with emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response coordination. Culture & Continuous Improvement Serve as a visible safety presence on the production floor. Conduct safety standups and support operations during meetings regarding acting as the safety SME. Reinforce Casper's commitment to a “Safety First” culture. Identify opportunities to reduce risk while improving operational efficiency. Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, HR, and Maintenance. Qualifications: Experience Required 2-5 years of safety experience in manufacturing, food production, or industrial environments. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards. Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and training. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels. Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety documentation systems. Ability to work on the plant floor, including walking, standing, and occasional lifting. Preferred Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Health, or related field. OSHA 30 certification (or ability to obtain). Experience in food manufacturing or cold-storage environments. Familiarity with GMPs, sanitation safety, and food safety overlap. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
