This Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Specialist to join our team! In this role, you will support the development, implementation, and oversight of Bay West's health and safety programs. You'll partner with field staff, project managers, and leadership to ensure that all operations meet or exceed federal, state, and company safety standards, contributing directly to our culture of safety excellence.
This is an in-person, office-based position with the potential to work at project locations as needed to support field operations.
Your Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Planning and Oversight
Review, edit, and approve Site Safety and Health Plans (SSHPs) and Emergency Response Incident Action Plans (IAPs).
Apply in-depth knowledge of chemical exposures to ensure proper protection measures are in place before project initiation.
Determine appropriate levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection for diverse field scenarios.
Conduct exposure assessments using validated sampling and analytical methods, including real-time instrumentation for chemical, physical, and biological stressors.
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
Interpret and apply occupational health and safety regulations to daily operations, considering each project's unique variables.
Lead and oversee Bay West's Respiratory Protection Program, including monthly inspections of SCBAs and SARs.
Provide expertise in Permit-Required Confined Space (PRCS) operations, including IDLH conditions and proper ventilation of the PRCS.
Support compliance with DOT regulations.
Maintain accurate OSHA 300 records and ensure all safety documentation meets regulatory standards.
Ensure compliance with federal and state environmental/occupational health and safety regulations by completing required reports, posting notifications, maintaining records, implementing controls, and developing and implementing practices and programs.
Safety Program Coordination
Manage key Bay West facility safety programs including AED, Severe Weather, Fire Prevention, and site safety audit programs.
Administer the company's Learning Management System (LMS), supporting training delivery, recordkeeping, and program development.
Oversee internal training programs, including employee progress tracking, enrollment, coordination with training providers, and in-house instruction.
Develop, revise, and deliver Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), corporate health and safety manual updates, and new training content.
Incident and Claims Management
Conduct and document incident investigations, near-miss reviews, and root-cause analyses, recommending and implementing corrective actions.
Manage and process workers' compensation claims, ensuring timely communication and resolution.
Develop and distribute monthly safety performance reports and analytics.
Auditing and Continuous Improvement
Perform formal and informal safety audits across project sites and facilities.
Complete prequalification safety packets for subcontractors and maintain third-party safety databases.
Evaluate work environments for ergonomic, chemical, radiological, and biological hazards, recommending preventive and corrective measures.
Collaboration and Communication
Partner with Human Resources and the Shop Department to administer the driver qualification and safety programs.
Lead or participate in safety committee meetings and monthly staff safety meetings.
Deliver New Hire Health and Safety Orientation sessions for incoming employees.
Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, across all organizational levels and client interfaces.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) or related field
Associate Safety Professional (ASP) credential, or Occupational Hygiene & Safety Technologist (OHST), or Graduate Safety Professional (GSP) credential preferred
Two or more years of industrial and/or construction EHS experience
Valid driver's license with clear motor vehicle record
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting environmental consulting, remediation, or industrial operations
Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulatory frameworks
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in field and office environments, including occasional travel to project sites

2. Guest/Visitor Service
Provide exceptional customer service to Guthrie patrons. Take every possible step to ensure guests have a positive experience.
Present a polite and professional demeanor when interacting with patrons and colleagues.
Ensure theater and lobby spaces are clean, safe and welcoming.
Follow Guthrie policies and emergency procedures, directing patrons in the event of an emergency.
Problem-solve patron issues as they arise, elevating as needed to supervisors.
Communicate with supervisors, informing them of patron comments, issues or requests.
3. Leadership and Supervision
Oversee Public Safety staff to fulfill the responsibilities of the department.
Lead the training of new Public Safety Specialists using the Field Training Officer (FTO) checklist.
Serve as a liaison for the Public Safety team with other teams at the Guthrie, such as ITS and Facilities. Work with the ITS department to solve daily computer and telephone issues.
Actively participate in team building, fostering a work environment incorporating the Guthrie values of Artistic Excellence; Community; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility; and Fiscal Responsibility.
Coach and develop staff members by monitoring employees' quality of work and providing constructive feedback; facilitating conflict resolution among employees; ensuring adherence to legal and organizational policies and procedures and undertaking disciplinary actions if the need arises; and completing annual performance evaluations.
Use the organizational check-in form to complete monthly check-ins with all direct reports.
Lead and/or assist with interviews of new applicants for Public Safety Specialist positions.
Ensure that staff maintain knowledge of proper responses to different types of calls for assistance and stays current with CPR/AED certifications.
3. Administration
Create the Public Safety team schedule, ensuring shifts are adequately covered.
Communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, to complete required documentation of Daily Activity Reports and written Incident Reports.
Answer phone calls, take messages, and assist vendors to promote internal department communication and ensure effective communication to Guthrie staff.
Contribute to the overall work culture of the Guthrie by promoting interdepartmental teamwork and fostering open communication.
Review Incident Reports and sensitive CCTV footage, using discretion and confidentiality to resolve safety matters.
Perform routine maintenance checks of equipment as well as inventory and stock first aid supplies throughout the building.
Maintain working knowledge of technology within the security department, collaborating with ITS as projects arise, and acting as a resource to staff as needed.
Provide observations and input to ensure policies and procedures are followed and are in line with best practices.
Requirements
Essential Knowledge and Qualifications
Demonstrated safety-related experience, or a combination of experience and training.
Prior experience supervising, training, and motivating a team in a fast-paced environment highly preferred.
Must possess or be willing to obtain Emergency Medical Responder certification within 1 year of hire.
Can work independently as well as in a team atmosphere.
Contributes to a positive visitor experience.
Can respond quickly to a wide variety of requests for emergency and non-emergency assistance.
Can work in a fast-paced environment and resolve problems that may affect large volumes of people.
Demonstrates good judgment under pressure or in stressful situations.
Must be able to stand, stoop or walk for the entirety of an 8-hour shift and can adapt and move from area to area and perform different tasks as needed.
Can repeatedly move up and down flights of stairs in various areas of the theater, including in low light conditions and during emergencies.
Can lift/move/carry 75 lbs.
Willing to work a variety of shifts including afternoon, weekends, evenings and some holidays.
