Partner with engineering to perform safety risk assessment of any upcoming project such as equipment additions or changes to the site's layout for compliance with applicable safety rules, regulations, and practices.
Responsible for maintaining the site's safety training system.
Track and maintain records in compliance with OSHA training standards.
Provide feedback to plant management as it relates to safety training compliance.
Create an environment that promotes a knowledge of safety related regulations and education in safety related topics for both management and employees.
Promote the company vision, business principles and the Ring Container Technology culture.

Experience, Educational and Technical Qualifications
The Safety Manager position requires a 4 year degree.
Minimum of 5 years direct experience in safety program implementation or safety system management.
Work experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Possess strong people skills, leadership qualities, managerial abilities, a sense of urgency, accountability, business ethics, professionalism, self-motivation and the desire and focus to improve the business.
Must be proficient in general problem solving and incident investigation, root cause analysis, action planning techniques; able to prepare and interpret charts, and perform trend analysis studies.
Capable of conducting analytical problem solving using statistical data analysis techniques.
Ability to organize and orally present relevant subject matter to management and employees
Ability to provide technical guidance through past experience and knowledge OSHA standards.
Partner with corporate safety manager and third party consultants as necessary.
Strong oral and written communication skills, writes clearly, speaks persuasively, and facilitates groups effectively.
Ability to work on weekends as necessary to support plant operations.
Occasional travel may be required.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

JOB SUMMARY:
The Mission of this role is to manage the Environmental Health and Safety operations and functions for the Company, both GSM Industrial and GSM Roofing. Plans, develops, implements and administers safety programs, safety training, workers' compensation and testing programs. Applies engineering, safety and environmental principles and technology to prevent or correct unsafe physical and environmental working conditions. Also responsible for ensuring safety legal compliance and oversight. Perform work in a way that aligns with GSM operating values including cooperation, flexibility, respect for team members & customers and always in a professional manner.
TACTICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Manages and directs sites in achieving EHS targets & objectives. Directs development, maintenance, and achievement of goals in support of GSM EHS strategic initiatives.
· Manages environmental permit compliance and reporting requirements. Establishes relationships with regulatory agencies. Conducts or directs testing of air quality, noise, temperature, radiation and paint emissions and ensures all associated compliance reporting is completed (this responsibility is primarily for GSMI).
· Manages regulatory requirements, including OSHA, MSHA and all Federal, State, local and customer requirements at required reporting intervals.
· Champions the T3P (Tools-Protection-Procedures-Positioning) risk reduction philosophy.
· Performs safety audits, both in-house and at jobsites to identify common safety/health/environmental hazards inherent in the organization's operations and establishes guidelines for protection from those hazards. Includes coordination of 3rd-party vendors supporting the GSM safety audit process.
· Works with GSM Leadership Team to create targets and objectives based on key EHS risks.
· Audits safety and health standards and environmental programs for compliance with Company standards, government regulations, and adequacy relative to local conditions.
· Audits existing SDS and ensure hazardous chemical inventory is current.
· Researches, plans, and maintains the Safety Handbook Policies and procedures to comply with applicable regulations.
· Participates in the New Hire Orientation Process to ensure that new employees are properly trained for their positions with respect to safety.
· Provides technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes to maintain high organizational safety standards.
· Leads the Company Safety Committees
· Leads the timely investigations of work-related injuries, near-miss incidents and occupational injuries to determine root cause, install preventive measures, and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use to mitigate future risk of similar incidents, including vehicle and property damage incidents.
· Issues Safety Quick Reports (SQR) for all applicable incidents.
· Administers Workers' Compensation program, including working to reduce employee lost time and recordable injuries to ensure optimum organizational performance.
· Provides support and assistance with timely and accurate reporting of insurance claims on Workers Compensation, Automobile and General Liability.
· Develops internal communication content to support safety initiatives, policies and procedures, providing consistent and effective internal communication in order to support the organizational strategy and raise Safety Awareness.
