Manufacturing began there in 1975.
Both ULM and lithium-ion batteries are made in Bordeaux, France, and Valdosta, Georgia (US), where Saft opened a factory in 1975.
Alcatel repurchases all the shares of Saft S.A. that were de-listed in 1995
The aircraft used Saft batteries (for engine starting and backup power) until its last flight between New York and London in 2003.
That is why, in early 2018, Saft formed an alliance with other European industrial champions to develop the battery of the future.
