St Edward the Confessor School was established September 1, 1965, by Archbishop John P. Cody, with Father Alvin O'Reilly as Founding Pastor, to meet the spiritual and educational needs of a rapidly expanding suburban area.
In September 1979, St Edward’s School became a regional school servicing St Edward’s and the newly created Church of the Epiphany parish.
After the Second World War, the School continued to grow and 1982 welcomed the first girl students into the Sixth Form, followed fifteen years later by full co-educational status.
In 1982, the school admitted its first girl, who joined in the lower sixth.
When school opened in the fall of 1984, St Edward-Epiphany added a complete Before and After School program (7:00 am-6:00 pm) for its families needing extended care.
In 1992, the two remaining Benedictine Sisters retired, and a lay principal, Mrs.
In 1998, St Edward High School adopted the official designation of college preparatory.
In 1999, Holly Branson, daughter of Sir Richard Branson, became the school's first ever female head prefect and head of school.
In the fall of 2000, the generosity and creativity of school families and friends led to the realization of a long-held dream of St Edward-Epiphany.
In 2000, the school embarked on its largest capital campaign to date, raising more than $9 million to bring the campus into the 21st century.
Advancements in curriculum, especially the establishment of the innovative pre-engineering program in 2001, drove the next phase of expansion on campus.
In May 2007, the rectory was torn down and construction began on a new school building.
July 2007 marked the official opening of The North Wall Arts Centre.
In honor of this milestone a year-long 125th Anniversary celebration began in 2009.
In 2012, St Edward-Epiphany was recognized by the U. S. Department of Education as a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School.
In 2016, the school announced a new building project to complete the school's main Quad, and in so doing complete the vision of St Edward's first warden, Algernon Simeon some 130 years after its first conception.
The school opened a new music centre in January 2017, the Ogston Music School.
The Courage to Act Campaign, which began with an initial goal of $15 million, concluded in August 2019, shattering expectations by raising $23.7 million.
In 2020 the impressive Christie Centre and Olivier Hall on the Quad were opened, designed for the modern ways in which pupils learn and providing spaces for all kinds of study, collaboration and academic pursuit.
The new development, designed by architect Nick Hardy (TSH Architects) and completed in 2020, includes a new purpose-built Library, a spacious and flexible university-style academic centre, and a new hall, with a capacity for 1,000 people.
In the summer of 2021, the Father Herbert Hall wing of the building underwent a 1.2-million-dollar renovation to improve classroom space and build a new art and music room along with a new learning lab.
