St. Francis Career College offers training opportunities for those aspiring to work in the nursing field, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Located in Lynwood, California with a campus in San Jose, St. Francis Career College is owned by St. Francis Medical Center. St. Francis offers an LVN program, a nursing assistant program and a “bridge” program. The bridge program allows students who wish to become RN's to start their training at St. Francis and then complete it at East L.A. College. Since it is a Catholic organization, managed by the Sisters of Charity, St. Francis is committed to helping administer medical treatment to the poor. St. Francis is equally devoted to helping students from impoverished backgrounds. For this reason the majority of students come from low-income, challenged families. St. Francis provides support for such students by giving them personal counseling, childcare and financial assistance for housing, food and transportation. Admissions requires that prospective St. Francis students fill out an application, take an entrance exam, conduct an interview and receive a health screening among other things.
