Firmly entrenched within the Episcopal tradition and dedicated to service, our mission has remained unchanged since 1945 – to serve children and families as an instrument of hope and of healing in body, mind, and spirit.
1981 - Foundation of St Francis Social Services
St Francis Social Services was established in 1981 by the Franciscan Friars to provide the opportunity for community members to support the continuation of the work of St Francis of Assisi in Sydney by assisting people from the periphery.
1981 – Assumed responsibility for Centre 360 Youth and Family Service (Formerly The Come In Youth Resource Centre)
St Francis Center, a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, was established in June 1983 and operated from a leased building on 22nd & Lawrence streets in downtown Denver.
In 1992, SFC incorporated as a non-profit organization.
Tom Luehrs became Executive Director in 1993 and remains in the position today.
2001 – Founding partner in establishing the House of Welcome
In 2012, SFC took over the Turnabout program, and as a result, our Employment Program targets ex-offenders, a particularly vulnerable part of the population who are homeless, and connects those it serves with full-time, permanent employment.
2014 – St Francis Social Services assumes responsibility for Greenlight Movement
Another permanent supportive housing program, Saint Francis Apartments at Cathedral Square, was built and opened in 2018, through collaboration with other community partners.
Robert Smith and COO Tom Blythe after learning about the whistleblower report, which was delivered to DCF in November 2019.
In 2019, Saint Francis expanded its reach to Nebraska by severely underbidding PromiseShip for a contract to provide services in the Omaha area.
Smith and Blythe lied to Nebraska officials and board members about the true cost of those services, according to an investigation conducted by Saint Francis in November of 2020.
