Saint Francis Health System company history timeline
It was announced that day that the building would be called the Gerlach Building in honor of Sister M. Canisia Gerlach, O.S.F., hospital administrator since 1960.
That dream became reality when Saint Francis Hospital opened its doors in 1960.
The hospital in Rockford moved in 1963 to a new facility as present day OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.
1967: The Bothin Burn Center opens as a 10-bed acute care center.
Later that year, St Joseph’s Hospital in Bloomington, Illinois, was established, moving in 1968 to its present site today as OSF St Joseph Medical Center.
1968 – A seven year modernization and building project costing $7,000,000 was completed.
In order to meet patient care requirements, as well as the demands of a rapidly growing population in southeast Tulsa, the hospital was expanded in 1969 to 735 adult and pediatric beds and bassinets.
1973 – On February 1, two doctors performed the first open heart surgery Peoria on an 18-year-old woman who had a hole in her heart.
A major milestone occurred on December 3, 1975 - the 15th anniversary of the hospital - when the Natalie Warren Bryant Cancer Center opened its doors.
1979: The Center for Sports Medicine opens.
During 1979, Saint Francis Hospital launched many new services.
1980 – The medical center officially launches a children's heart surgery program, led by Doctor Dale Geiss.
1983 – The landscape of Saint Francis Medical Center and downtown Peoria changed dramatically on June 28 with the groundbreaking of a $47 million, seven-story addition to the medical center.
1984: The Project '84 Campaign raises $3.5 million for major hospital renovations.
1985 – On July 14, Doctor Beverley Ketel performs the first kidney transplant in central Illinois.
1986: The Healthwise Senior Program is started.
1986 – About 12,000 people attended the four days of opening festivities for the new addition to the medical center.
1987 – Peoria's first heart transplant took place at the medical center on April 27.
That same year, the Central Administration Office was established, renamed the Corporate Office in 1987 and today is known as Ministry Services.
Warren Clinic In 1988, Warren Clinic was founded by The William K. Warren Foundation to expand the base of available primary care physicians in eastern Oklahoma.
1989 – Saint Francis becomes the first Illinois hospital to mobilize a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, at a cost of $1.1 million.
That vision became Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital which opened in 1989.
1990: Saint Francis becomes the first hospital in the Bay Area to perform Laser Gall Bladder Surgery.
In 1990, OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois was officially established within OSF Saint Francis Medical Center as a pediatric hospital.
1994 – An urgent care facility, called "Prompt Care," opened on the main floor of the Glen Avenue Outpatient Center.
1995 – To create a system identity, the letters "OSF," representing Order of St Francis, are added to the name of each medical center, including OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
The Children's Hospital at Saint Francis In 1995, The Children's Hospital at Saint Francis was established.
1997 – In February, the creation of the OSF Stroke Network is announced with 13 hospitals as charter members.
In November 1997, Medical Care Associates of Tulsa (MCAT) joined Warren Clinic.
Saint Francis Hospital at Broken Arrow Saint Francis Hospital at Broken Arrow officially became part of the Saint Francis Health System in January 1998; yet, the history uniting the two began a decade earlier.
2000 – On February 15, a groundbreaking is held for RecPlex (later named RiverPlex), a joint effort between OSF Saint Francis and the Peoria Park District.
2000: Saint Francis opens The Health Center at SBC Park (now AT&T Park).
2001: Equipped with the latest technology and expertise, The Total Joint Center opens its doors.
On January 28, 2002, OSF Aviation, LLC, which owns helicopters configured and equipped for patient transport, was organized.
2002 – Doctor Ketel performs the area's first pancreas transplant on September 6 and the first kidney-pancreas transplant on September 8.
2004: The Behavioral Health Day Program and the San Francisco Center for Wound Healing programs open.
In December of 2005, the physicians and staff of Springer Clinic became a part of Warren Clinic.
2005: Saint Francis Memorial Hospital celebrates its 100th birthday!
2006: Saint Francis Memorial Hospital opens a state-of-the-art new Emergency Department and implements CareConnect, the hospital-wide paperless medical record system.
On April 12, 2007, Community Medical Center consolidated its assets with OSF Healthcare System and is known today as OSF Holy Family Medical Center and OSF Holy Family Clinics in Monmouth, Illinois.
On September 1, 2008, HeartCare Midwest, Ltd., was purchased by OSF Healthcare System.
2008: Saint Francis Memorial Hospital is certified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission.
Saint Francis Hospital South Opened in 2008, this 96-bed community hospital serves the needs of southern Tulsa and Wagoner counties in Oklahoma.
2009: Saint Francis opens the new Spine Care Institute of San Francisco.
In 2009, Cardiovascular Institute, an OSF LLC, was organized to provide professional services of cardiologists in the Rockford, Illinois, area.
In 2010, the OSF Multispecialty Group – Western Region, LLC, was organized for specialty physician services in the Galesburg, Illinois, area.
2010 – Ten days of events surrounded the opening of the new Children's Hospital of Illinois/OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
2011: Saint Francis opens nine new and most advanced operating suites in San Francisco.
The Supportive Care and Employer Services divisions were established in 2011, as was Preferred Emergency Physicians of Illinois, LLC, which provides emergency medicine physician services to various Illinois hospitals.
On May 1, 2012, Ottawa Regional Medical Center was integrated with OSF Healthcare System, changing its name to OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center.
2012: Saint Francis begins expansion of the Bothin Burn Center from 10 to 20 beds.
In 2013, Jump Simulation was established in partnership with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria.
On April 2, 2014, Kewanee Hospital joined OSF Healthcare System as OSF Saint Luke Medical Center.
Saint Francis Trauma Emergency Center and Patient Tower The eight-story, 500,000-square-foot patient tower and Trauma Emergency Center (TEC) opened in early September of 2014.
2014: Saint Francis expands its Imaging Services Department with new advanced digital imaging technology with the addition of the Hologic Selenia Dimensions 2D Digital Mammography and the Toshiba Aquilion Prime Volumetric CT Scanning.
Saint Francis Hospital Muskogee In April, 2017, Eastar Health System and affiliated clinics became part of Saint Francis Health System.
