In this position, you will provide pre-procedural and post-procedural care for inpatients and outpatients undergoing procedures in the Main Operating Room, hospital-based GI suites, and select cases within the Radiology Department. Surgical specialties seen include Bariatrics, ENT, General, Gynecology/Obstetrics, Spinal Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Plastics, Podiatry, Urology, Urology-Gynecology, Vascular, and Robotics.Procedural specialties seen include Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Cardiology, and Interventional Radiology.
Three 10-hour shifts weekly (0600-1630), plus on-call shifts. The call response time is 30 monutes
The Work:

*36 hours/week * Night Shift *Rotate Weekends/Holiays SLH NICU is a collaborative environment with a robust multidisciplinary team including in-house, 24/7 coverage by a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and Neonatologist. Our Registered Nurses arehighly trained and specialized nurses who work with newborn infants who are critically ill and/or premature. These nurses provide care for infants in the neonatal intensive care unit and work closely with a team of healthcare professionals to ensure the best outcomes for the infants in their care. The role of a NICU RN is both challenging and rewarding, as they are responsible for the well-being of some of the most vulnerable patients in a healthcare setting. The NICU RN is responsible for monitoring vitals, managing central venous and arterial lines, chest tubes, enteral and oral feedings and performing other patient care needs. Our NICU runs four types of ventilators; HFOV, HFJV, Servo and conventional that the RN manages jointly with the respiratory therapist.We strive for a family-centered model of care and value family input and participation. Our staff regularly attend both routine and high-risk vaginal and cesarian deliveries to ensure optimal outcomes for all infants. There are specialized teams for therapeutic hypothermia, ELGAN (extremely low gestational age newborns) and NOWS (neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome).The NICU RN must have a strong foundation in critical care nursing, neonatal resuscitation, and neonatal pharmacology. Performs in holding by ensuring patient is correctly prepped for the procedure. Ensures needed information, such as history and physical (H&P), is timely.
Utilizes critical judgment to analyze patient assessment and administers medications on all patients, including the critically ill patient and reports abnormal information to the physician in a timely manner.
Performs hemostasis safely and properly with or without vascular devices.
Routinely enters patient orders and charges. Checks charges to ensure accuracy.
Provides care of the critically ill patient with the ability to function independently in a stressful situation.
Routinely educates patients and families based on assessed needs, documents education provided, and keeps them informed of tests and treatments. Provides clear patient instruction on what to expect during the perioperative procedure.
Assists families to the cardiology area or Cath lab area by escorting when necessary.

+ Creates a positive patient experience by assisting patients with their activities of daily living including assisting with baths, ambulating, feeding, skin care, personal and oral hygiene and making occupied and unoccupied beds as measured by patient satisfaction quality audits and direct observation.
+ Contributes to quality care and safety by assisting and performing procedures such as performing dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, toileting, turning, cough and deep breathing, catheter care, collection of biological specimens, measuring and recording intake and output of fluids.
+ Contributes to exceptional patient satisfaction by establishing a compassionate environment, timely responses to patients' needs, open communication and providing emotional and psychological support.
+ Contributes to safety and quality care by relaying information via charting and communicating to team members.
+ Contributes to achievement of exceptional health care by functioning as a member of the team as measured by active participation in department initiatives, unit meetings, committees and special projects.
+ Informs licensed nurse of any changes in patient condition/needs, of patient complaints, and of patient/significant other educational needs.
+ Prepares patients for discharge and accompanies them upon dismissal as indicated.
+ Stocks and maintains supplies and equipment in keeping with patient care needs and cost containment. Utilizes time and supplies economically and conscientiously.
+ Orients new patients and significant others to the nursing unit.
+ Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
+ Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing and completion of first clinical rotation
