One Sunday morning in 1985, Meeks marched into the church he had led for five years and announced that he was leaving.
In 1987, Gerald Thompson became the pastor of Salem Baptist Church.
Reverend Maurice Watson, Senior Pastor of St Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, accepted the position of Senior Pastor of Salem Baptist Church in November of 1988.
In 1989, Salem celebrated its bicentennial, having served the community of Salem for 200 years.
They ran a six-month tutoring program for kids when city attention turned to Roseland's gang problems after the 1994 death of Robert "Yummy" Sandifer, an 11-year-old killed in a gang shooting after he was named as the killer of another child.
In 1995, the church bought nine lots beside the church at bargain prices at a county sale of land with overdue tax bills.
A 1997 study by the Woodstock Institute, a group that promotes economic growth in low-income areas, found that Meeks' basic theory about alcohol is right.
On April 19, 1998, Salem’s vision was realized with a groundbreaking ceremony, which was held at 3131 Lake Street.
Meeks cruises the neighborhood in a 1999 Jaguar.
On January 23, 2000, the Salem family marched from 3336 Lake Street into their new church home located at 3131 Lake Street.
After leading the church for over 15 years, Pastor Maurice Watson was called to be Senior Pastor of Beulahland Bible Church in Macon, Georgia, in March of 2004.
Doctor Selwyn Q. Bachus was called by God to be the Senior Pastor of Salem Baptist Church in July of 2005.
In 2008, the sanctuary was renovated again, increasing the seating capacity, adding a balcony and choir loft.
Then in 2009 a Clothes Closet was opened in the Christian Life Center to serve the needs of the community.
The Clothes Closet transitioned into a Thrift Shop in 2012 with Carolyn Howard as the director.
In 2013, the parking lot was expanded to over 100 spaces in order to better direct the traffic flow and protect children entering and exiting the facilities.
On May 15, 2015, the church voted in it's current pastor, Derek Bradshaw.
In 2015, SBC launched their Annual Easter Service known as Raise & Praise.
In 2016, Salem Baptist Church purchased a new bus with a capacity of 26.
