Working as a sales associate and in customer service, you need some patience. You're going to get some complaints from customers. As well as customers who aren't going to be happy, no matter how hard you try to make the situation better. Sometimes, all you can do is take a breath and count to 10.

But it's not all bad. In fact, most customers you interact with will be excited about buying whatever product your store sells. It's your responsibility to help customers buy said product and check out. The customer service side of your job involves helping with return purchases and any issues a customer has.

You don't need any formal education before working in this position. But you'll probably have to go through some on-the-job training. You'll also probably have to work some weekend shifts, and maybe even evening shifts. But that just means your day will be wide open for some fun in the sun or errands - whatever the case may be.

What's a day at work look like for a sales associate and customer service?

New graduates will need to be self-disciplined and self-motivated. No one is going to hold your hand and tell you "get to work" or you will soon be looking for a new job. The new world may be one where you don't go to an office, but instead work right from home, scheduling appointments and doing your own calendar. My last years working for Target in a regional field position taught me that no one was going to motivate me each day, I had to motivate myself. Also, it can be lonely working from home as a new graduate, so find outside interests and ways to make friends. I am from the old fashion ideologies that getting a hobby is extremely important, and that hobby is not going to the gym or watching television. It includes something that enriches your life to be a better person in society.
