Saline Area Schools company history timeline

1987

Our first show was held on November 14, 1987, with 66 craft booths and about 900 shoppers.

Although the society had more than one start and stop, in 1987 it began again in earnest and continues until now.

1991

1991: An original Saline Standard Windmill was restored.

1994

1994: Positive public support grew for developing a Depot Museum.

1995

1995: The Saline Depot Museum opened on July 4th.

1999

1999: The Rentschler Farm Museum opened in May with a gala Springtime on the Farm.

2005

2005: The 135th Anniversary of the Depot and the 10th Anniversary of the Depot Museum was celebrated in July.

2006

2006: Rentschler Day drew 75 family members.

2008

2008: Rentschler Farm celebrates its 10th Year as a museum with a big celebration in September.

2009

2009: The Depot Museum hosted an Old Vehicle Day for the first time.

2010

2010: An enlarged gift shop was moved to the Cody building at the farm and opened in May.

The Foundation is proud to announce funding for twenty-three teaching initiatives during the 2010 grant cycle totaling more than $18,000.

2011

The Foundation is proud to announce funding for nineteen teaching initiatives during the 2011 grant cycle totaling more than $16,000.

2011: A decision was made to have the farmhouse windows professionally restored.

2012

The Foundation is proud to announce funding for eighteen teaching initiatives during the 2012 grant cycle totaling more than $19,000.

2014

2014: The society re-installed one of two original cast iron watering troughs along S. Ann Arbor Street.

2016

2016: The Rentschler Farm Museum garden is given the Green Thumb award by the Saline Parks Commission for taking extra effort to make the community and their property more attractive for all to enjoy.

2020

In the unprecedented year that was 2020, the Foundation saw a need to bring access to remote education to all those in need.

2020: The hay wagon used at the Harvest Time event is refurbished as well as stabilizing the roof and north wall of the chicken coop at the Rentschler Farm.
