Salve Regina University company history timeline
In 1947, following more than a dozen years of careful preparation, the turn-of-the-century Newport mansion Ochre Court was gifted to the college corporation, enabling Salve Regina to welcome its first class of 58 students that fall.
Salve Regina University was established in the city in 1947.
By 2000 the campus had expanded to 60 acres and included 18 buildings of historical significance.
In 2002 the university received a Getty Grant Program award to develop a campus heritage preservation plan.
In December 2015 the university received a Tree Campus USA designation, a program of the Arbor Day Foundation which recognizes and encourages the best practices of planting and caring for campus trees and the engagement of students in environmental stewardship.
