Paving & Asphalt Intern - North Plant General Description The Construction Internship at Blythe Construction, Inc. provides relevant field experience for construction management students. Our internship program provides a realistic view of what it's like to work in road construction through meaningful, hands-on experiences. Key Duties May Include:

About the Program Associate
The Program Associate role is designed as a structured, year-long learning experience designed to build essential competencies in rural community development and capacity-building. Through hands-on project-based work, mentorship, and intentional professional development, all Program Associates will develop transferable skills for their careers in 6 core competency areas:

Rural capacity building theory, policy, and practice
Nonprofit organizational development

The goal of the Program Associate is to strengthen their understanding of rural community-driven, capacity-building services and develop additional skills by supporting MDC Rural Prosperity and Investment staff, community partners, and other constituents. Under the supervision of a Partnership Manager, the Program Associate will support a specific location or issue area to be determined in consultation with the chosen candidate.
Tasks may include:
Assisting with meeting planning, coordination, facilitation, and notetaking.
Community outreach and communications.
Drafting logic models, asset maps, project management tools, and other products.
Supporting policy change efforts by researching and summarizing public policy.
Identifying and developing projects that further the goals of a given program.
Attending meetings convened by partner organizations.
Other administrative tasks (no more than 10%).
Key Qualities and Skills
Experience in community outreach, research, and/or program evaluation.
Excellent oral and written skills to communicate with a variety of audiences. Skills in bilingual (English and Spanish) speaking, writing, etc. are highly desired, but not required.
A sincere curiosity about rural communities and willingness to explore issues of inclusion, power, privilege, and diversity.

About the Dan Broun Award
Late MDC employee Dan Broun was a highly esteemed champion for place-based strategies to improve outcomes for rural communities in the South. In his honor, Program Associates are invited to participate in an optional project that celebrates the “why” behind the work. Participants will design and present a self-directed project reflecting on their learning journey and contributions to rural communities, and one Program Associate will receive the Dan Broun Award, including an additional stipend beyond the normal pay rate.

Commitment
This is a year-long internship experience to begin in May and conclude in spring of the

Paving & Asphalt Intern - Raleigh General Description The Construction Internship at Blythe Construction, Inc. provides relevant field experience for construction management students. Key Duties May Include:
* Support the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, file management, document control (submittals, RFIs and change orders) and progress reporting.
* Work with field supervision to assist with project layout, setting control lines, surveying, construction drawing and trade coordination, verification of field conditions and quality control.
Qualification Requirements

* Education and Experience.

**District Overview**
**TIC Marine & Heavy Civil** self-performs marine projects with company-owned equipment for both the public and private sector, historically focusing on the southeast coast. Our construction operations are supported by our in-house equipment department, fabrication facility and machine shop to streamline projects for our owners. Using our own equipment and fabrication facility allow us to maintain control over critical scopes, ensuring that the project stays on schedule. Past heavy-civil experiences include cast in place concrete, steel, box beam, flat slab, railroad trestle and arch bridges, bridge widening, bascule and swing bridges, box culverts, storm drainage, erosion control, dike and levee construction, concrete paving, tunnels and sound barriers. Our Marine experience includes lock and dam repairs, docks, demolition, Navy wharfs, water intake structures, steel, concrete, composite and timber piling, fender systems, dolphins, piers, dredging, marinas and LNG facilities.

**Responsibilities**
As a Safety Intern, you'll be part of a team implementing and overseeing the Project Safety Program including the development of site safety policies and procedures. You'll assist in monitoring the various construction projects activities, ensuring the compliance with pertinent government regulations, state or provincial, client, and company policies and procedures. You'll assist in establishing and monitoring safe working conditions for our most valuable assets - our people. You'll provide corrective action recommendations and assist in implementing metrics for tracking and reporting on performance issues when needed. Safety Interns will review project work plans for accuracy in conformance with all standards and assist in safety program audits, coaching and regular onsite training. You must have the ability to carry out duties in varying work environments including wide-ranging weather conditions and terrain with the ability to travel and/or relocate as required for projects.
**Qualifications**
- Must be pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field of study
- Knowledge of construction safety, current Federal and OSHA requirements
- Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skill
- Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
