PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Work consists of operating all Tool Room machines and equipment proficiently, including layout and assembly in accordance with engineering specifications to construct, repair, maintain and calibrate shop tools, jigs, fixtures instruments, patterns, core boxes, machine and equipment parts, furniture and shipping containers.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Set up and operate efficiently all machines and equipment in the Tool Room such as grinders, lathes, milling machines, including CNC mills, drill presses, saws, planer, sanders, mig, tig, arc and acetylene welding, burn out and edm.
2. Use all machinist and pattern maker hand tools and precision measuring instruments skillfully.
3. Fabricate, assemble, construct and repair metal or wood parts, tools, jigs, fixtures, master patterns, core boxes and dies from prints, sketches or templates.
4. Construct, calibrate, or set gauges and precision measuring instruments.
5. Sharpen all tools and work to a minimum tolerance of .0001.
6. Maintain equipment and working area in a clean and orderly condition.
7. Perform other job related duties as directed by supervisor.
8. Requires a minimum of instruction and supervision.

Job Summary: Bingham & Taylor is seeking a skilled Pattern Maker Machinist to be responsible for making new tooling (foundry patterns and core box) by machining processes and following drawings provided by the design engineer. They will also perform repairs on existing tooling to modify the tooling based on requirements. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in running manual and CNC machining equipment with a wide variety of materials. These duties will be performed within safety, quality, and production standards. The ideal candidate must be a proactive solutions-provider, adept at identifying challenges and implementing effective strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Make new tooling (Foundry Patterns and Core Box) by machining different material using manual machining equipment like lathe, horizontal and vertical milling machines.
Perform regular repairs and modifications on existing tooling.
Set and run CNC machining equipment.
Support tooling repair and modification for Injection molding and blow moldings tools.
Support other machining requirements from different operational departments.
Assemble pattern sections using hand tools, bolts, screws, rivets, glue, and/or welding equipment.
Perform regular pattern changeovers for production.
Clean and finish patterns or templates using emery cloths, files, scrapers, and power grinders.
Construct fixtures for different departments and process as needed.
Design and create templates, patterns, or core boxes according to work orders, sample parts, or mockups.
Lay out and draw or scribe patterns onto material, using compasses, protractors, rulers, scribes, or other instruments.
Mark identification numbers or symbols onto patterns or templates.
Paint or lacquer patterns.
Read and interpret blueprints or drawings of parts to be cast or patterns to be made; then compute dimensions and plan operational sequences.
Repair and rework templates and patterns.
Set up and operate machine tools, such as milling machines, lathes, drill presses, grinders, and CNCs in order to machine castings or patterns.
Verify conformance of patterns or template dimensions to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, scales, and micrometers.
Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of machining experience with Foundry tooling required.
Proficient in machining skills using manual equipment like lathe, milling machine, drill press, grinders.
Proficient in setting and operating CNC is a plus.
Working experience with 3D scanner and 3D printer is plus.
Experience with injection molding, blow molding and extrusion tooling is plus.
Understanding of new additive manufacturing like 3D printing and 3D Scanning for developing tooling is preferred.
