A Deputy Sheriff II is responsible for law enforcement, crime prevention, patrol of assigned areas and enforcement of State and Local laws.
Deputy Sheriffs do not rotate into the jail.
Extra Help assignments are non-benefited and may be used for on-call needs up to 29 hours per week (up to 1,000 hours per fiscal year). Extra help employees are not eligible for promotional opportunities open to regular part-time and full-time employees.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS:

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
The Deputy Sheriff has the responsibility of maintaining law and order within the County by performing law enforcement activities in a variety of assignments: patrol, investigations, court security and civil.
Patrol: Patrol assigned areas; answer calls for protection of life and property and the enforcement of County and State laws; conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations of criminal incidents; direct traffic and detain drivers who are operating vehicles in violation of laws; issue citations and make arrests as necessary.
Investigations: Investigate major crimes against property and persons; conduct extensive follow-up investigation at the scene of crimes and accidents; gather evidence; conduct surveillance; locate and question witnesses; take statements from witnesses; present information to the District Attorney's office for filing of charges; appear in court as directed.
Court Security: Maintain safety and security for all personnel in the courtroom; serve as bailiff in the courtroom; transfer inmates to and from the courts and correctional facilities; search individuals entering the courtroom when necessary; monitor all courtroom activities to anticipate any safety concerns; assist other courtroom personnel and jurors in ensuring smooth operation of the courtroom.
Civil: Serve legal papers such as subpoenas, summons, complaints and writs of attachment, executions and restitution; serve warrants and make arrests; prepare, process and maintain necessary files, documents and reports; perform other work related to the processing of misdemeanor and felony complaints.

Experience:
One year of professional experience in law enforcement work. Further defined as continuous professional experience as a paid, full-time Peace Officer in California.
Qualified Out-of-State Lateral Applicants are defined as lateral applicants who lack the CA POST Certificate. These laterals may apply, however proof of enrollment in the CA POST Basic Requalification Course must be submitted at time of application. Education:
Equivalent to completion of high school. Equivalent to completion of two years of college is highly desired.
Certificate:
Possession of a valid Basic Certificate issued by the California Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission.
The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training requires that each individual who has previously completed a POST-certified basic course, or has previously been deemed to have completed equivalent training, AND the individual has been awarded a POST certificate but has a three-year or longer break in service as a peace officer, must be retrained or complete the basic course waiver process (PAM Section D-11), unless such retraining or examination is waived by the Commission.
License*:
Possession of a valid California Driver's License.

Librarian I is the entry-level in the professional librarian series. Under general supervision, incumbents perform professional library duties in an assigned area of the library, which may include supervising the work of sub-professional library personnel. Incumbents are expected to attain the degree of proficiency necessary for advancement to the class of Librarian II.
Librarian II is the fully qualified journeyman level in the professional librarian series. Incumbents in this class perform difficult professional library work in a major division of the library. Incumbents may also supervise the work of professional, paraprofessional, and sub-professional library personnel.
Librarians must be willing to work evenings, weekends, various locations throughout the County, and holidays as required.
This recruitment is being conducted to establish an eligibility list for future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help Librarian I/II positions in Calistoga. Positions may be filled at the I or II level depending on qualifications.
Positions for the Calistoga Library require bilingual Spanish/English abilities. Bilingual pay differential will apply.
Permanent Full-time positions are allocated, benefited positions working 40 hours per week.
Permanent Part-time positions are allocated, benefited positions working less than 40 hours per week.

The Building Maintenance Worker vacancies we have available will work at various locations across the county and must be willing to respond to emergencies after working hours, holidays, and on weekends as needed.
The position itself requires skilled work in the maintenance, alteration, and construction of equipment and structures, and to perform related work as required under general supervision. A variety of tasks in the building trades will be assigned. A typical day could consist of finishing the tape, texture and paint of a newly constructed wall, or responding to hot/cold work orders from county employees, to installing a new pump motor on a boiler system.
Four years of responsible experience in at least one of the following building trades: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or heating/air conditioning is required for this position. The ideal candidate will have hands-on technical skills in all construction trades and be able to work as part of a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. Good communication and customer service skills are highly desirable.

The Cook III is responsible for directing and participating in the activities at the Napa County Department of Corrections, which is an institutional kitchen serving meals to a large number of people. Additionally, the Cook III will be responsible for receiving and conducting inventory a variety of food items and kitchen, laundry, and cleaning supplies, as well as training and directing the work of incarcerated persons assigned to kitchen and laundry duties. The Nutrition Case Management program in the Monterey County Health Department Public Health Bureau, provides support to clients and their families who have weight management, chronic disease, and related dietary concerns. As Registered Dieticians, the Public Health Nutritionists II assess clients' nutritional concerns and needs, and work with their clients to set their personal health goals related to nutrition through home visitation and/or telehealth appointments. Services focus on Medi-Cal clients across the age span but prioritize children. Assistance is given on management of pre-diabetes, diabetes, and gestational diabetes management; as well as obesity, dyslipidemia and altered eating patterns related to social, environmental, and behavioral factors. Additionally, participants in the program are referred to resources including but not limited to food, dental, activity, housing, emotional and social support that may be needed.
The Women Infant Children (WIC) program provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support and healthy foods to pregnant, postpartum, infants and children to age 5. The Registered Dietitian, Public Health Nutritionist II (PHN II) will assess and determine participants eligibility for WIC program services. The PHN II will provide nutrition consults, review and process prescription referrals of therapeutic formula. The PHN II will provide nutrition trainings and presentations for participants, community, and staff. The PHN II will support and coordinate nutrition service efforts through farmers markets, Worksite Wellness, the local WIC vendor liaison and outreach programs. The PHN II will conduct quality assurance to ensure WNA compliance to nutrition and breastfeeding training and standards and on a rotational basis will support detention facility inspections.

About the Position of Correctional Officer I/II:
Correctional Officer I is a trainee position. Those hired into this job classification will work initially under close supervision, learning the procedures, practices, techniques, and methods of custody, control, and counseling of inmates. The Correctional Officer I will receive training in all areas of operations, settings, and assignments. They will be working with a broad range of people in various detention settings and assignments. Correctional Officer II is the fully qualified working level in the Correctional Officer series. Incumbents are expected to work independently using judgment and initiative within established department guidelines and procedures.
Position Requirements for Correctional Officer I/II:
* The County jail is a 24/7/365 operation. Persons employed in this class must be willing to work odd irregular and/or rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends.

ADDITIONAL INCENTIVES:
Loan Forgiveness Program: Applicants appointed to this position who attended and received a degree (Associate's or Bachelor's) consisting of a minimum of 60 credits/units at a regionally accredited school by the Council of Regional Accrediting Commissions are eligible to receive a payment up to $20,000 (or $30,000 if certified bilingual by Napa County) towards student loan(a). Health and Human Services Agency
The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) partners with communities to protect and improve the health and well-being of Shasta County residents. Established in 2006, the HHSA is organized into branches: Behavioral Health and Social Services, Public Health, Economic Mobility, and a centralized administration. The HHSA promotes optimal health for all. The frail, the abused, the mentally ill and those without resources look to the HHSA for services and resources to meet their basic needs, and to protect their health and safety. Public Health focuses on community-wide prevention of communicable disease, chronic disease, injury, substance abuse, family violence, and lead poisoning. ABOUT THE POSITION
Public Health Nurse I: Under close supervision, to perform public health nursing, teaching, and health guidance services in homes, clinics, and a wide variety of community settings in connection with the health promotion and the prevention and control of disease or disability in the foster care population. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Public Health Nurse I: This is an entry-level class for Registered Nurses who have recently been certificated as a Public Health Nurse or those who have been out of practice for a number of years. DESCRIPTION
THE AGENCY The primary mandated services of the Assessor's Office include: locate and identify the ownership of all taxable property in Alameda County; determine the taxability of all property; determine the re-appraisability of property changing ownership or having new construction added; annually assess all real estate in accordance with the provisions of Article XIIIA of the State Constitution (Proposition 13); annually assess all taxable personal property at its fair market value; determine and apply all legal exemptions against these assessments; and surrender an accurate assessment roll to the Auditor's Office prior to July 1st each year. The Assessor's Office mission is to provide timely and accurate appraisal services in a manner resulting in fair and equitable treatment for all Alameda County taxpayers. With a proposed staffing level of 175.47 full‐time equivalent positions, this team of professionals provides mandated assessment services performed in accordance with the California Constitution, Revenue and Taxation Code, Government Code, and State Board of Equalization guidelines and directives. THE POSITION Under close supervision, in a training capacity, to appraise real property and to do related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EITHER I Qualification by one of the following means specified in California Revenue and Taxation Code (hereinafter R & TC) Sections 670(a), 673, and California Property Tax Rules 282 and 283 for a temporary appraiser's certificate issued by the California State Board of Equalization: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR High school graduation (or possession of a GED) and four (4) years of full-time (or equivalent part-time hours) "relevant experience," as hereinbelow described; OR Any combination of the equivalent of four (4) years of "relevant experience" as hereinbelow described and of education in an accredited institution of higher education. When fewer than four years of education in an accredited institution of higher education are used to meet the minimal qualifications, the number of qualifying years or fractions thereof shall be determined by the number of units in which passing grades were received. One year of education requirement shall consist of either 30 semester units or 45 quarter units. Relevant Experience means employment experience within the last ten years in any of the following occupations: As used in paragraphs "2" and "3" above, "relevant experience" includes and is limited to the following: A. Experience as an accountant-auditor, real property appraiser, building cost estimator, engineer, real estate loan agent, real estate loan underwriter, right-of-way agent, licensed building contractor; OR B. Experience as a real estate licensee, licensed by the California Department of Real Estate, engaged in buying, selling, leasing or managing real estate; OR C. Experience as an Appraiser's Aide or Appraiser Trainee in an Assessor's office or the Property Tax Department of the California State Board of Equalization; OR D. Experience as an employee, other than an Appraiser, Appraiser Aide, or Appraiser Trainee, of an assessor's office or of the Property Tax Department of the California State Board of Equalization, except that such employment time shall be limited to qualifying for only two-thirds of the four-year experience requirement. The remaining one-third of time shall be accumulated by other relevant experience as described in subparagraphs (A), (B), and (C) above or by education in an accredited institution of higher education. OR II Possession of a current, valid, permanent, inactive permanent or a temporary appraiser's certificate issued by the California State Board of Equalization. Special Requirements: As to appointees who do not already possess a current, valid, permanent or temporary appraiser's certificate issued by the California State Board of Equalization, continued employment after appointment to this classification is contingent upon the California State Board of Equalization's acceptance of the appointee's qualifications and the Board's issuance of a temporary appraiser's certificate. In addition to qualifying for a temporary appraiser's certificate issued by the California State Board of Equalization at the time of appointment, appointees who do not possess a permanent certificate must pass the appraiser's permanent certification examination administered by the California State Board of Equalization within twelve months of appointment to this classification. Continued employment in this classification, beyond the twelve months specified in Special Requirement "2," above and advancement to Appraiser II, is contingent upon the appointee obtaining a permanent appraiser's certificate as hereinabove described. License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license. Physical Requirements: Incumbents must be able to climb stairs and hills. Incumbents must be able to distinguish between the colors red, blue and green. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies: Ability to: Learn the theory, methodology, practices and procedures involved in the appraisal of real property for ad valorem tax purposes. Perform mathematical calculations, including arithmetic and plane geometry. Make and understand simple scale drawings reflecting the size, shape, dimensions and physical characteristics of real property and improvements thereto. Read and interpret Assessor's maps and architectural building plans. Assemble, analyze and draw logical conclusions from data of the sort used in valuation of real property for ad valorem tax purposes. Keep accurate, detailed records. Learn and use computers and computer equipment, software and programs used by the Assessor's Office, including computer workstations, personal computers and peripheral devices, independently or as a part of a networked information system, for the purpose of entering, storing, retrieving, updating and working with data relevant to the appraisal and assessment of residential and rural property for ad valorem tax purposes. Prioritize multiple assignments to meet deadlines. Interview and elicit information from individuals by telephone and in person. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Follow written and oral instructions. Work effectively with the public and co-workers. Organize and plan time for workload. Work independently.
EXAMINATION COMPONENTS
THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS A review of applicants' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. A written examination that will be weighted as qualifying only (pass/fail). Those candidates scoring highest on the written test will move on to the next step in the examination process.
