HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Director of Membership and Audience Management will carry the responsibility for the overall acquisition, retention, and relationship management for key audiences that are vital to SDZWA's revenue generation. This includes our base of approximately 400,000 members, the largest zoological membership program in the world. They will lead project management efforts for audience development and loyalty activities and develop new earned and contributed income opportunities including our VIP program efforts.
The Director of Membership and Audience Management will develop and lead the overarching audience strategy for marketing and communications to our member and VIP audience with the objective of building sustainable growth in membership counts and revenue through conversion rate improvements, upper-funnel messaging, analytical rigor, the membership value proposition, and understanding drivers/behaviors of renewals.
The Director of Membership and Audience Management serves as the face of membership, facilitating meaningful audience engagement and curating the member experience across all campuses, including digital and social, and deepening the relationship with both existing and prospective members. The position reports directly to the Vice President of Sales & Membership.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Lead the creation and implementation of SDZWA's membership sales and marketing strategy, providing strategic direction to the Membership Agency of Record for development of marketing and advertising specific to membership and VIP audiences.
Continually improve member acquisition, visitation, retention/renewals, loyalty, and monetization opportunities through the evaluation of past present, and plan for future revenue growth and performance, making recommendations to maximize market penetration and ROI. These efforts include growth of both revenue and individual counts.
Create and manage a calendar of omnichannel marketing appeals that leverage a variety of media to communicate with potential and current members and VIPs. Channels include direct mail, print, telemarketing, programmatic digital display, SEO/SEM, email, and social media. Apply industry trends, consumer insights and data to identify changing market segments and audiences. Fine tune offerings and/or focused efforts to those audiences.
Attract, mentor, motivate, and lead a strong, cohesive, and high-performing Membership & Audience Team consisting of 8-10 staff including program managers, data analysts, and VIP liaisons.
Prepare annual budget of approximately $5MM for the Membership & Audience Management team to ensure efficient and effective use of SDZWA's resources and manage multiple vendors related to membership and audience management services.
Serve as the subject matter expert in membership strategy, prospect acquisition and VIP services. This includes consulting with other internal and external partners.
Serve as the public face of Membership. Demonstrate strong presentation, storytelling, and persuasive speaking skills. Distill complex information into compelling presentation materials to effectively communicate vision, objectives, and strategies with organizational peers, team members, and senior leadership.
Lead strategy to drive awareness and results for VIP offerings and work with operating teams to ensure the most premium experience in the industry.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
JOB EXPERIENCE
5+ years of leadership experience mentoring a team of at least five people required.
3+ years experience managing a large, complex budget required.
7+ years of experience in progressive, consumer-facing marketing including membership programs, loyalty programs, and prospect acquisition required.

The Community Engagement team is seeking to fill a part-time, temporary position to facilitate the AIP program's Human Dimensions of Conservation course. Ideal candidates will have experience with the social sciences and human dimensions sub-field as well as: online course platforms and hands-on teaching methods, experience within the Project Dragonfly Miami University learning community, program tenets, and understanding of graduate program structure. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work non-traditional hours (mornings, evenings, weekends) as needed in accordance with student availability and assignment deadlines, and co-lead experiential learning curriculum and activities onsite and at adjacent locations. Position Summary
Janitors play a vital role in making Oakland Zoo a pleasant and enjoyable place for our staff and guests by carefully maintaining the Zoo Grounds and Facilities. They provide thoughtful and responsive customer service to internal (i.e. co-workers) and external (vendors, park visitors, contractors etc.) guests while tending to their assigned areas.
Essential Job Duties
General office maintenance
Utility work that may include moving furniture, loading, unloading and distributing supplies, servicing high use public areas and responding to complaints or needs to special cleaning.
Maintain a safe working environment and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.

Position Summary

Position Summary
Guest Services Representatives play a key role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone who visits the zoo. They will be asked to play many roles throughout the Zoo including greeting guests, managing ingress/egress, staffing various guest services locations, assisting people in boarding the gondola and safely operating amusement rides. These staff will interact with numerous other departments and are expected to maintain their service level across those interactions as well. These essential members of our team help connect folks to amazing experiences at the Zoo.
Essential Job Duties
Demonstrates superior customer service with customers, both internal (i.e. co-workers) and external (vendors, visitors, customers, etc.)
Assist with parking coordination and oversee the parking process for guests
Greet guests and safely welcome them on and off all rides/attractions
Greet guests and assist in guest flow in and out of the park and throughout the zoo
Learn and maintain an understanding of zoo protocols and policies to ensure proper guest engagement
Respond appropriately to emergency situations
Maintain a clean and orderly work area
Arrive in uniform, on time, and ready to work each day

Program Overview
The Veterinary Anatomic Pathology Resident Rotation is an opportunity for anatomic and clinical pathology residents in established programs (traditional and non-traditional tracks) or those that have recently completed a program, to gain experience in marine mammal anatomy and pathology. Rotating residents will provide postmortem data on our patients and select carcasses, which consists of phocids, otariids, and the occasional cetacean and sea otter. During their time at The Marine Mammal Center, they will become familiar with marine mammal gross necropsy and histopathology including classic diseases.
This program requires a minimum of 2 weeks to maximum of 4 weeks duration and has openings year-round. The highest case load will be between March 1 and September 30 of 2025. (All slots for 2024 have been filled, with openings still available for 2025).
Shared housing near the Center MAY be available for a fee. Independent transportation is required; there is no public transportation to the Center's hospital and guest housing. Those who are accepted into the program will be asked to submit a separate application for housing.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform gross necropsies and write necropsy reports, trimming in cases, evaluating histology from cases and writing associated reports after review with the pathologist.
• Opportunity to aid in gross necropsy instruction with veterinary students.
Qualifications and Experience
• DVM, anatomic or clinical pathology resident in a pathology residency training program.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds throughout the primarily outdoor hospital for extended periods of time in variable weather conditions.
• Ability to perform physical work requiring manual dexterity, agility, strength and coordination.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position and move in an office environment for extended periods of time.
• Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
• Ability to walk/cover up to 5 miles during a shift on a frequent basis.
Work Environment
• Working in outdoor weather conditions and elements daily.
