Join the forefront of national security as a highly motivated and experienced R&D MechanicalEngineer with the Ballistic Missile and Air Delivered Tester Development teams. As the premier test equipment engineering capability for the Stockpile Surveillance Program, we play a critical role in ensuring the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear weapon stockpile. This position offers a unique opportunity to learn about the U.S. Nuclear Security Enterprise, nuclear weapon design and function, and the role of Sandia National Laboratories in the nation s nuclear deterrence mission.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to distill customer requirements into functional designs, ensuring that all aspects of the product realization process are addressed.
* Design and implement test bed assemblies that will experience various mechanical environments, including centrifuge and shaker table test environments, as well as explosive containment assemblies (boom boxes).

The Advanced RF ICs and Microsystems department (5255) seeks an R&D Microwave and Sensor Engineer to design, fabricate, test, qualify, and deliver custom-designed microwave components. These components enable military communication systems, SAR imaging, doppler radar, and tagging, tracking, and locating hardware. Our team seeks a driven RF engineer capable of fundamental electromagnetic modeling, transistor-level circuit simulation, and distributed element microwave PCB design. It is also important for the candidate to understand electronic die characterization, RF test equipment, solder assembly, PCB development, and fabrication.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
* Use circuit modeling tools to design analog or RF integrated circuit components for transceivers.
* Use circuit and electromagnetic modeling tools to design high sensitivity radio frequency components.
* Run Monte Carlo simulations over voltage, temperature, and process corners
* Model active circuit components: AC, Transient, Harmonic Balance, EM

**What You Will Do** The Engineering Services Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions that enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission. This position is within the Engineering Services Weapons Project Delivery group (ES-WPD). **What You Will Do** The Accelerator Operations and Technology Division (AOT), Radio Frequency Engineering (RFE) group is seeking an R&D Engineer at either a Level 2 or Level 3 for their 805 MHz HPRF team. The AOT division is responsible for maintaining, operating, and upgrading all accelerator systems at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) complex. These systems include two 750-keV Cockcroft-Walton-based injector systems (H+ and H- systems), a 201.25-MHz drift-tube linear accelerator (LINAC) utilizing high-power diacrode tubes, an 805-MHz coupled cavity LINAC utilizing high-power klystrons as the primary power source, a proton storage ring, and approximately one kilometer of beam transport lines that deliver beam to the five independent research programs.
The RFE group oversees all radio frequency (RF) systems and consists of three specialized teams: Low-Level RF (LLRF) focused on real-time phase and amplitude controls; High-Power RF (HPRF) systems at 201 MHz; and High-Power RF systems at 805 MHz. The group provides expertise, support, technical, leadership and engineering support in RF system design, including gridded tube amplifiers, klystrons, RF control systems, and accelerator cavities. While the group's primary focus is the design, and implementation of RF systems for the LANSCE User Facility, it also supports a wide range of internal and external collaborations, sharing expertise with national security projects and international accelerator research communities. RFE team members frequently participate in global partnerships, workshops, and conferences to advance RF technology.
**This position will be filled at either the R&D Engineer 2 or R&D Engineer 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.**
**R&D Engineer 2 $104,100 - $172,200**
The High-Power RF (HPRF) team at LANSCE is looking for a candidate with a background in MechanicalEngineering or related field to join the RF Engineering group. This is a support role with dynamic responsibilities, guided by the priorities of the HPRF plant at LANSCE. Duties include troubleshooting programmatic equipment and extending to engineering and supervisory aspects of project execution such as performing initial calculations, developing specifications, submitting procurement orders and coordinate testing and delivery, and installation.
The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanicaldesign and software such as SolidWorks. A practical fabrication and/or machining is highly desirable. Strong skills in computational analysis, particularly structural and thermal analysis, are important, with CFD experience considered a plus. Proficiency in CAD design and layout is also strongly desired. Experience developing production systems in an industrial environment, including system design, installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning, is preferred. As a member of the AOT-RFE high-power RF Engineering team, you will be working closely with other engineers and technicians and will be responsible for the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the LANSCE 805 MHz high power RF systems. These systems include klystron and vacuum tube/solid-state power modulators, along with associated electronics, interlocks, protection circuits, and high-voltage power supplies (up to 90 kV, 2340 kW), as well as power electronics. The role also includes participating in an on-call rotation to support the high-power RF amplifier systems after hours and on weekends. This on-call assignment typically occurs one week out of every six during the approximately seven-month annual operating period of the accelerator.
**R&D Engineer 3 $125,200 - $211,300**
In addition to what is outlined for R&D Engineer 2, this level includes leading and contributing to the planning and implementation of future RF system upgrades as part of a larger team engineering team. This involves an evaluation of two existing modulator designs and design improvements to enable higher power operation. Following successful testing and demonstration on dedicated test stands, the upgraded systems will replace the current high-voltage and klystron amplifiers across a significant portion of the LANSCE linear accelerator. The work also includes analyzing RF system data to guide design decisions for enhancements for improving reliability and performance.

Join the forefront of national security as a highly motivated and experienced R&D MechanicalEngineer with the Ballistic Missile and Air Delivered Tester Development teams. As the premier test equipment engineering capability for the Stockpile Surveillance Program, we play a critical role in ensuring the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear weapon stockpile. On any given day, you may be called on to:
+ Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to distill customer requirements into functional designs, ensuring that all aspects of the product realization process are addressed.

We are seeking a highly motivated and self-starting early career R&D MechanicalEngineer to work in the dynamic CAMINO Operations team (org. 7524). Responsibilities Peraton has an opening for a Spacecraft ACS Team Lead at the White Sands Complex in Las Cruces, NM. The Spacecraft ACS Team Lead will join a team of engineers dedicated to ensuring the health, safety of the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) fleet through evaluation and assessment of spacecraft telemetry. The Spacecraft ACS Team assists with planning and execution of spacecraft orbit management, momentum management, subsystem assessments and telemetry monitoring, and other activities required to support unmanned and human space flight mission success.
Peraton is the prime contractor for NASA at the White Sands Complex (WSC) near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Operating here are two functionally identical satellite ground terminals: The White Sands Ground Terminal, and the Second TDRSS Ground Terminal. These ground terminals ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASA's orbiting geosynchronous fleet of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft, and the computer systems that support such spacecraft. WSC serves as an interface for distributing satellite data to control centers and scientists who then use the daily influx of data to expand our ever-growing knowledge of the Earth and the universe.
This position will be responsible for the following:
* Lead a team of direct reports to complete project requirements and allocate tasking for spacecraft engineers.
* Perform daily monitoring and trending of TDRS spacecraft state-of-health data.
* Develop, maintain, and validate procedures for performing spacecraft activities, including station-keeping, momentum management, spacecraft relocations, and anomaly recovery.
* Perform spacecraft End-of-Mission planning, simulations, execution, and documentation.
* Responsible for the technical integrity of projects and operations while providing technical guidance to department staff and project levels.
* Work closely with resources to create test plans and ensure that issues are properly assigned and resolved.
* Provide accurate, articulate, quick turnaround notifications and status updates for anomalies.
* Analyze and identify spacecraft system anomaly root causes. Coordinate team planning and execution of recovery actions.
* Assist in developing and maintaining checklists and training material for spacecraft engineers.
* Conduct team meetings as necessary to plan for upcoming activities, discuss ongoing issues, and facilitate team cohesiveness.
Qualifications
Required Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, MechanicalEngineering, Physics or related field and 6+ years of relative experience.
* Prior experience working with spacecraft and leading projects and/or teams.
* Occasional travel to other sites may be required.
* Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance thereafter. In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship. An Interim Secret is acceptable to start.
Desired Experience:
* Active Secret security clearance.
* Previous experience associated with TDRS operations is highly desired.
* MS degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, MechanicalEngineering, Physics or related field.
* Proficiency with Systems Tool Kit (STK), Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW.
* Previous spacecraft operations, design, or test experience.
* Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with peers and management.
* Experience with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Target Salary Range
$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
