Are you looking for an opportunity to contribute to a highly motivated team focused on delivering qualified electronic components to a national security mission? The Advanced RF ICs and Microsystems department (5255) seeks an R&D Microwave and Sensor Engineer to design, fabricate, test, qualify, and deliver custom-designed microwave components. These components enable military communication systems, SAR imaging, doppler radar, and tagging, tracking, and locating hardware. Our team seeks a driven RF engineer capable of fundamental electromagnetic modeling, transistor-level circuit simulation, and distributed element microwave PCB design. It is also important for the candidate to understand electronic die characterization, RF test equipment, solder assembly, PCB development, and fabrication.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
* Use circuit modeling tools to design analog or RF integrated circuit components for transceivers.
* Use circuit and electromagnetic modeling tools to design high sensitivity radio frequency components.
* Run Monte Carlo simulations over voltage, temperature, and process corners
* Model active circuit components: AC, Transient, Harmonic Balance, EM
* Characterize RF components and modules over extreme environmental stresses.
* Troubleshoot analog or RF circuits in a modern, well-equipped electronics lab
* Use of electronic equipment to measure slew rate, gain, stability, phase noise, jitter, s-parameters, power output, P1dB, PSat, noise figure, modulation quality (EVM), or sensitivity.
* Ability to effectively collaborate with technologists and engineers to test and characterize new devices in a variety of technology nodes/processes.
* Team to design, prototype, analyze, and evaluate microsystems that achieve increased performances.
* Communicate results and findings to co-workers and potential customers.
* Identify, develop, and pursue new technology opportunities in areas that support Sandia mission activities.

$99,400 - $193,600

We have a focus on efficient, high performance RF component design, electromagnetic modeling, as well as novel wireless sensor development. What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a highly motivated Product Engineer to join our Explosive Component Production team within the Explosive Technologies Group at Sandia National Laboratories. This department is responsible for the Production of explosive components, including detonators, ignitors, actuators, and other explosive components, in support of the Nuclear Deterrence mission.

These systems include two 750-keV Cockcroft-Walton-based injector systems (H+ and H- systems), a 201.25-MHz drift-tube linear accelerator (LINAC) utilizing high-power diacrode tubes, an 805-MHz coupled cavity LINAC utilizing high-power klystrons as the primary power source, a proton storage ring, and approximately one kilometer of beam transport lines that deliver beam to the five independent research programs.
The RFE group oversees all radio frequency (RF) systems and consists of three specialized teams: Low-Level RF (LLRF) focused on real-time phase and amplitude controls; High-Power RF (HPRF) systems at 201 MHz; and High-Power RF systems at 805 MHz. The group provides expertise, support, technical, leadership and engineering support in RF system design, including gridded tube amplifiers, klystrons, RF control systems, and accelerator cavities. While the group's primary focus is the design, and implementation of RF systems for the LANSCE User Facility, it also supports a wide range of internal and external collaborations, sharing expertise with national security projects and international accelerator research communities. The High-Power RF (HPRF) team at LANSCE is looking for a candidate with a background in MechanicalEngineering or related field to join the RF Engineering group. This is a support role with dynamic responsibilities, guided by the priorities of the HPRF plant at LANSCE. Duties include troubleshooting programmatic equipment and extending to engineering and supervisory aspects of project execution such as performing initial calculations, developing specifications, submitting procurement orders and coordinate testing and delivery, and installation.

This involves an evaluation of two existing modulator designs and design improvements to enable higher power operation. Following successful testing and demonstration on dedicated test stands, the upgraded systems will replace the current high-voltage and klystron amplifiers across a significant portion of the LANSCE linear accelerator. The work also includes analyzing RF system data to guide design decisions for enhancements for improving reliability and performance.

These components enable military communication systems, SAR imaging, doppler radar, and tagging, tracking, and locating hardware. Our team seeks a driven RF engineer capable of fundamental electromagnetic modeling, transistor-level circuit simulation, and distributed element microwave PCB design. It is also important for the candidate to understand electronic die characterization, RF test equipment, solder assembly, PCB development, and fabrication.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
+ Use circuit modeling tools to design analog or RF integrated circuit components for transceivers.

We are seeking a highly motivated Communication/System Security/Crypto Project Engineer | Senior Project Engineer with a desire to support customers across a full spectrum of system security, crypto, and communications system activities.
This is a full-time position based in Albuquerque and Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, which is 100%onsite.
What You'll Be Doing
* Provide direct engineering support primarily to the Space Rapid Capabilities Office. Additional support may occasionally be requested for Space Systems Command, Air Force Research Lab and Space Development Agency customers.
* Advise government customers and their program contractors on cryptographic capability design and implementation.
* Perform research and technical assessments in areas of cryptography, network security, cybersecurity, communications integration.
* Review and develop technical designs, Concept of Operations (CONOPs), system test plans, technical documentation and provide feedback and guidance in both oral and written form.
* Develop technical information for ground and space systems to include integration of cryptographic hardware, system security controls, long-haul communications, securing data-in-transit.
* Communicate with multiple government agencies, contractors, and vendors to develop new cryptographic, system security, and communications technologies .
* Author and/or co-author technical engineering documents in relation cryptography, network security and system security.
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for the Project Engineer - Secure Enterprise Crypto Architect role
* Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or similar STEM technical area of study
* 8 years of experience in cryptographic technologies is desired for the support for SpRCO
* Demonstrated ability to communicate and have effective collaboration in a cross functional, matrix environment to support multiple local and remote customer locations within multiple programs
* Proven experience in network engineering, network architecture, long-haul communications knowledge and experience
* Expertise in developing and presenting technical reports, concept documents (CONOPs), briefings and analytical assessment for different audiences.
* Willing to travel domestically up to 25% of the time
* This position requires a current TS/SCI security clearance with SAP eligibility, which is issued by the US Government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the Senior Project Engineer - Secure Enterprise Crypto Architect role:
* A minimum of 12 years engineering experience in in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or Network Engineering
* Working knowledge of multiple types of Proven ability and expertise in cryptographic technologies, standards, and policies
* Strong leadership, team management and collaboration abilities.
* Proficient in Linux and its native programming or scripting languages
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
* Advanced degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or similar technical area of study
* Experience with implementing and operating COMSEC items, primarily space-based cryptographic solutions, but also terrestrial cryptographic solutions
* Experience with space and ground system infrastructure, including design, implementation, and operation of COMSEC hardware, network devices, compute systems
* Experience with designing or implementing data-in-transit flows and data structures-both space and ground-at all layers of OSI model
* Experience with configuring Amazon Web Services (AWS) based cloud computing services
* Proficient in Linux and its native programming or scripting languages
* Test plan authoring, editing, review, and execution
* Current TS/SCI with the ability to obtain SAP clearances, which is issued by the US government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
