Sandy Spring Bank history

Being much attuned to the topic of vaccines these days, my eye was immediately caught when Doctor C.E. Iddings wrote in his diary on January 20, 1880, of receiving “vaccine quills from the State Agent.” Tucked in the back of the diary was this receipt for the very same.

Diary: Doctor Caleb Edward Iddings, January 23-27, 1881

As deduced from an account ledger, a series of mishaps and recovery issues had local physician Doctor Caleb Edward Iddings visiting the Johnson family thirty-three times in the first three months of 1884, the most visits to any family the doctor would conduct throughout the entire year.

Today’s selection recounts the adventures and experiences attained by Edward Kummer during a trip to Massachusetts in 1886.

The brainchild of Theodore Roosevelt in 1910, the World League for the Peace of Righteousness was formed on behalf of peace and justice in an atmosphere of rising tensions between nations.

Club Minutes: The Home Interest Club, July 14, 1913

Sandy Spring Museum was founded in 1981 when a group of residents led by Delmas Wood, an insurance salesman and auctioneer, noted that the community’s history was being sold off with every passing of a long-time resident.

October 12, 1986 – Sandy Spring Museum officially moves into Tall Timbers with a grand opening celebration.

MANHATTAN SHORT began in 1998, when Mason screened 16 short films onto a screen mounted to the side of a truck on Mulberry Street, Little Italy New York City.

2014 – The museum receives a $130,000 three-year grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to fund its community-driven programs and collaborations with cultural artists.
