During orientation you will work in a variety of areas including NICU, PICU, and Adult ICU. You will then have the opportunity to pick your specialty and work in that specific area that interests you most. If there are openings in Tobacco Education, Pulmonary Function, and Transport you can work in these areas as well and pick one of these as your specialties instead.
Come work in this family team environment! We are a Level II Trauma Center and looking for someone who has confidence in their skills, but who is also willing to help wherever they can. This department has opportunities for advancement and offers reimbursements on certification. Will hire new grads!
Job Summary
The scope of work for a respiratory therapist includes assessment, therapeutic intervention and education for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders and/or sleep disorders or associated complications. What you will do:
- Assess patients to prevent, detect, monitor and manage disease and complications.
- Measure patient's lung capacity to determine if there are any impairments.
- Offer diagnosis results and treatment suggestions based on the analysis of the patient.
- We have the ability to work in several clinical areas ranging from general floors to critical care.

Qualifications
A degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory care program is required; minimum associate degree or equivalent as defined by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Respiratory Therapists must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of all procedures, indications, contraindications and hazards involved in respiratory care, as well as knowledge of equipment utilized in their department. Demonstrates the ability and knowledge required to utilize computers for patient documentation and data gathering for quality care. Must complete orientations, competency validations, and other in-servicing as required by the department and hospital.
Must have current Respiratory Therapy licensure in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position.
Must have Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials as attained through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and maintain active status according to NBRC credentialing requirements.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. Must obtain site-specific specialty credential(s) such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), etc.

**Department Details**
Disease Management sees hospital inpatients and has an office at the Broadway Medical Center and Sanford Medical Center Fargo. They provide inpatient diagnostics and patient navigation/education. Disease Management includes the tobacco treatment specialists, COPD navigators, and Endoscopy bronchoscopy assistants, among other responsibilities. We've been involved in work groups for our hospital readmissions, palliative care, advance care planning, and pneumonia quality groups, etc. The Disease management therapists also see hospital outpatients for tobacco dependence counseling and asthma education, using a clinic room at the Broadway campus.
- This position is Full time 8 hour day shifts. Shifts are between 7AM and 8AM to 3:30PM or 4:30PM
- Every fourth weekend required
- One major and one minor holiday per year
- No call, but one of the team available by phone in the off hours as a resource for the RT therapists (infrequent calls)

Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment and Evaluation:
Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with respiratory or cardiopulmonary conditions, including reviewing medical history and performing physical exams.
Assess lung function, breathing patterns, oxygen levels, and other vital signs through non-invasive and invasive diagnostic procedures.
Analyze test results, including pulmonary function tests (PFTs), arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis, chest X-rays, and sleep studies.
Developing and Implementing Treatment Plans:
Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement personalized treatment plans for patients with respiratory issues.

Administering Respiratory Treatments:

Perform aerosol therapy to deliver medication directly to the lungs via inhalers, nebulizers, or other devices.
Administer incentive spirometry to improve lung function and encourage deep breathing after surgery or illness.
Provide airway management, including suctioning, endotracheal intubation, and assisting with tracheostomy care.
Monitoring and Evaluating Patient Progress:
Continuously monitor the effectiveness of respiratory treatments and adjust therapy as necessary based on patient responses.
Assess patients for signs of respiratory distress and intervene promptly when complications arise.
Track and document patient progress, ensuring treatments are tailored to the patient's evolving needs.
Emergency Response and Critical Care:
Provide emergency respiratory care to patients experiencing respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, or other life-threatening situations.
Administer resuscitation techniques, such as CPR, defibrillation, and advanced airway management, in emergency situations.
Assist with intubation, mechanical ventilation, and weaning from life support when necessary.
Patient Education and Support:
Educate patients and families on proper use of respiratory equipment, medications, and techniques for managing respiratory conditions at home.
Provide guidance on lifestyle changes to improve lung health, such as quitting smoking, controlling asthma triggers, and managing chronic respiratory diseases.
