Department Details
Schedule is Monday-Friday, no weekends, from 6am-2:30pm. Schedule would include 2 holidays per year.
No experience necessary - as an Associate Sterile Processing Technician you will receive on the job training to prepare, clean, process, and store supplies and surgical instruments for patient care. You will play a vital role in ensuring clean, safe, sterile instruments and equipment are available to hospital staff for use. Job Summary
As a Sterile Processing Technician you will be preparing, cleaning, processing, and storing supplies and surgical instruments for patient care. We will train you on all policies and procedures needed for this position. Responsibilities
* Responsible for ensuring all patient care and surgical supplies, equipment, and instruments are properly inventoried, inspected, stored, distributed and reprocessed in a timely manner
* Follows all standard operating procedures
* Understands and demonstrates all policies and infection prevention and control guidelines
* Able to recognize potential and actual processing errors and follow-up according to procedure or management instruction
* Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner and maintains continuity in workflow
* Utilizes applicable inventory systems in use
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Prior experience in central processing or healthcare environment is preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Must have strong phone and computer skills, with ability to navigate the internet and use handheld devices.
Certified in Central Service Technology (CRCST) is strongly preferred within 24 months of date of hire.

Responsibilities:
1. Assembles baskets of instruments, basin sets and equipment using appropriate check lists and prepares for sterilization.
2. Assembles sets of supplies and instruments used in a variety of clinical settings. Checks for cleanliness and functionality (i.e. sharpness of scissors, smooth movement of hinged instruments, etc.)
3. Decontaminates, disinfects and thoroughly cleans supplies, instruments and equipment used in a variety of procedures.

5. Monitors and maintains adequate levels of supplies, instruments and equipment.

Maintain scope washers and washer adapters. Check detergent levels and effectiveness of disinfectant as per policy. Effectively communicates information regarding scope repairs, loaners, supplies and QI information by maintaining documentation of all actions.
9. Wears PPE as per policy.
10. Acts as primary preceptor
11. Serves as a leader for troubleshooting and quality improvement and assurance processes.

Position Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterile processing department, under the guidance of the sterile processing department supervisors and manager.
This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, high level disinfected, marked for repair and placed in a proper repair location, and communicate incomplete trays and missing items to management and OR immediately. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. Each team member will be qualified to train others as assigned and serve as a front-line resource to sterile processing customers.

Required Qualifications:
Central Service/Sterile Processing/or Surgical Technology program certification with hands-on clinical experience

1 year of central service/sterile processing/surgical technology experience.
Word Processing knowledge, typing, data entry, strong communication skills - verbal and written.
The candidate will present current certification from either CBSPD: C.S.P.D.T. or HSPA (formerly known as IAHCSMM): C.R.C.S.T. or must attain one of these certifications within 18 months of hire.
The 18 month deadline will be the set on the same numbered day of the month as the hire date. For hire dates falling on the 31st, the deadline defaults to the last day of the 18th month.
This certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.

The Sterile Processing Tech (SPD) Responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterile processing department, under the guidance of the sterile processing department supervisors and manager.
This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, and/or high level disinfected. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the surgery center and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. In specific locations, the role will also be responsible for surgical case cart assembly and delivery. Each team member will be qualified to train others as assigned and serve as a front-line resource to sterile processing customers.
