As a Controls Technician, you will become proficient in testing, programming, commissioning, and servicing HVAC control systems and equipment in commercial and industrial critical environments. The ideal candidate has basic knowledge of HVAC systems, strong technical skills, and the ability to provide excellent customer service. What you'll do: Perform start-up, checkout, and troubleshooting for new and existing critical environment control systems and equipment. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and equipment performance data to determine proper balancing techniques and project management approaches. Install, wire, & checkout of fume hood controls. Perform wiring, terminations, checkouts, and assist in system start-ups utilizing commissioning tools. Diagnose, test, adjust, and balance system components to achieve optimal system performance. Maintain accurate project documentation, including installation records, as-built drawings, programming files, and commissioning reports. Complete paperwork on time including time sheets, expense reports, posting of work orders, on-site documentation and project status reports. Participate in job site meetings and final walk through on assigned jobs and complete all job closeout documentation and customer training. Continually enforce safety to the highest standards and maintain security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions. Attend training courses for multiple manufacturers to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to work on the lab control & air monitoring systems. Perform other duties as assigned. Required skills, knowledge, and abilities: High school diploma or state-recognized GED; Mechanical, electrical, or related technical degree preferred. 1+ years of experience installing and servicing electronic control or HVAC equipment preferred. Basic understanding of temperature controls and HVAC systems sequence and applications. Mechanical aptitude with eagerness to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical and electrical systems and equipment. Ability to work in a team environment and communicate clearly with customers, mechanical contractors, subcontractors, and fellow employees. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook). Good verbal and written communication skills. Physical Demands: This role requires frequent local travel to jobsites across Eastern Michigan. Willingness to work overtime as needed to support critical environment shutdowns on customer's schedule. Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company. Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet. Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
