Santa Catalina School history

Santa Catalina Lower School held its first eighth-grade graduation on June 4, 1951.

To answer the educational needs of the Sampaloc area and to accommodate the increasing number of students, a new concrete four- storey building was constructed and inaugurated in June 1953.

Our school opened in 1963 and presently serves circa 365 students in grades TK-5.

When Sister Kieran died in 1965, Sister Carlotta became principal, a title she held for 35 years.

Sister Carlotta, along with Sister Jean, established a pre-kindergarten program in the Lower and Middle School in 1970.

Having served as a teacher, counselor, and administrator since 1972, Sister Claire continued the dedication to excellence in all phases of campus life, providing opportunities for growth for students, faculty, and staff, and creating a stimulating environment for learning and living.

In 1976, the first lay principal joined the Lower and Middle Schools, and lay leadership has remained in place ever since.

In June 1985, The College Department re-opened the different courses as approved by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) with emphasis on the elementary teacher’s training program which later, offered Religious Education as Major.

Catalina College took place on February 18, 1988 when the National Historical Institute awarded this school a HISTORICAL MARKER for its contribution in the building of the nation as the first school for girls administered by religious women.

With the implementation of the program starting SY 1998, Sta.

Upon Sister Carlotta's retirement in 2002, Sister Claire Barone became Head of School.

Margaret K. Bradley became Head of School in 2016 upon the retirement of Sister Claire.
