This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with a mix of work spent in office and working remote from home.
Our Grid business unit is seeking an experienced Lead EHV Substation Engineer.
Responsibilities:
This position offers you the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the detailed electrical design and project management of distribution and transmission substation projects.
As a Lead EHV Substation Engineer, you will take an active role in project conceptualization, work planning, and project execution for EHV substation projects up to 765kV
Serve as a subject matter specialist in EHV substation physical design (500kV and above).
You will work on challenging assignments that include investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of electrical engineering and design issues.
As a Lead Substation Engineer, you will prepare or review reports and support project deliverables that present technical and project information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats. Typical deliverables include: Facility Studies, General Arrangement, Equipment Plans and Sections, Foundation Plans, Grounding and Conduit Plans, Equipment Connection Details, Control Building Plans and Sections, and AC/DC system designs.
Develop your career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge with other experienced engineers by way of S&L's systems of process and associated “Communities of Practice.”
In addition, you may have the opportunity to travel to client sites as needed.
Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:
This position requires a BSEE with a power systems or controls emphasis from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
10 or more years experience with a focus on protection / control / telecommunications for high voltage substations; including design, installation, and coordination.
3 or more years of experience with 500kV and/or 765kV substation design.
Knowledge of physical design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and 3D models.
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.
Proficiency with MS Office applications.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
Proficient with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
Familiar with Bentley Substation, BlueBeam, AutoCAD E or SDS design software.
Ability to prepare substation grounding calculations, direct stroke shielding calculations, battery & charger sizing calculations, etc.
Protection & controls experience.
Familiarity with ANSI/IEEE/NEMA standards as they relate to physical substation design. This includes the National Electrical Safety Code (ANSI - C2).
FE or PE license.

This position will be working in the field of mechanicalengineering on water resource projects including power, water, wastewater and light industrial type projects. Candidate shall possess strong computer skills, strong writing and communication skills and shall work well in a team environment. The candidate will work under the direction of senior level engineers and will work on multidisciplinary projects. The projects will include new development, modernization, and rehabilitation of hydro-mechanical equipment for hydropower and other water resource projects. This position is on our turbine team, with a focus on hydraulic turbines, speed governing systems, synchronous generators, turbine shut-off valves and ancillary equipment, as well as coordination with water, oil and air balance of plant mechanical systems. The position requires some travel.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Conduct interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials.
- Perform design for the mechanical discipline using knowledge of relevant software programs.
- Work with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of projects under the direction of a seniorengineer/ designer.
- Perform field work as directed by a seniorengineer/ designer.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Understanding of drafting/design tools such as AutoCAD.

This is a virtual position in the United States where you will work from your personal residence in a distraction free space. We are currently hiring/performing work in: any US state.
Mesa seeks a senior level substation design engineer with at least 15 years of recent and progressively responsible experience performing substation design and/or QA/QC including but not limited to:
Development of general arrangement, equipment plans, elevations, sections, control house layouts, grounding design, conduit and cable design, creation of bills of materials, and cable schedules utilizing Microsoft Office and AutoCAD software.
Perform electrical physical design for substations ranging from 4kV to 500kV.
Work in a project team environment with engineers and other designers involved in high and extra-high voltage substations.
Interpret and incorporate vendor information into design deliverables.
Properly apply client's substation design standards to the work.
High level understanding of SCE and Industry Standards.
Work on multiple projects concurrently.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the following:
Work with the QA/QC team to perform independent quality checks primarily on Physical Design Drawings, however P&C drawing reviews may also be required.
Capable of coaching and mentoring Design Engineers while providing constructive feedback on design errors.
Capable of preparing and verifying calculations using engineering formulas and skills or application specific software as required.
Manages personal task assignments, and for designated team members to ensure adherence to scope, schedule and budget.
Monitors project execution milestones and schedules to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
Performs technical and coordination checking/ review of deliverables and other project or study documents.
Use good verbal and written communication skills with team members and clients
Use good interpersonal skills to build relationships with team members and clients

Key Responsibilities:
Lead the planning, design, and execution of structural engineering projects while ensuring efficiency and innovation.
Mentor and provide leadership to project engineers and BIM team members, helping them navigate complex projects and grow professionally.

Conduct feasibility studies, site investigations, and structural assessments.
Oversee the preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and reports, ensuring compliance with building codes and standards.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering (Master's preferred).
A Professional Engineer (PE) license
Minimum 8 years of experience in structural engineering design and at least 2 years of project management experience.
Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (ETABS, RAM, RISA-3D, etc.).
Strong knowledge of building codes and standards (IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC).
Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Experience with BIM software (Revit, Bluebeam).
