What you will be doing:
* Safely operate locomotives and trains inside a customer facility.
* Make-up and break-up of unit trains.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Paperwork preparation associated with the movement of railcars.
* Actively participate in safety programs, including involvement in routine safety meetings.
* Understand and adhere to rail rules as prescribed by Savage, our customer, and the railroad.
* A desire to learn the skills necessary to do the job safely.

Education/Experience:
* Prefer 1 or more years of locomotive operating experience

* Ability to perform basic maintenance
* Active Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC card) or the ability to obtain one.
* Ability to attend and pass all training associated with job related coursework. This includes but is not limited to: OSHA, HazMat and FRA related courses.
* Willingness to wear required PPE
* Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends
* Work experience in an industrial environment
* Ability to read, write and understand English
* Clear drug / alcohol test / criminal background check
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
* Able to complete the physical aspects of the job including opening and closing rail cars dome lids, climb mobile access racks (heights), crawl under rail cars, walk long distances on uneven terrain, etc.
* Physically able to climb up and down railcars, ladders, and stairs safely; comfortable working at heights.
* Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
* Willing to work with liquid hazardous bulk materials
* Can carry at least fifty (50) pounds and have ability to walk 1-2 miles on average each shift

Here is what you will be doing
Perform minor/major repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance on mobile heavy equipment, conveyors, pickups, tractors and trailers at our Corpus Christi facility.
Assists with other facility mechanical repairs as necessary
Maintain shop cleanliness and parts inventory
Learn and partner with the Maintenance Supervisor to utilize the CMMS system as a tool of organization and preventative maintenance record keeping
Ensure all work is performed in compliance with regulatory requirements
Follow proper safety rules, maintenance and operating procedures
Assist with writing and revising maintenance procedures as needed
Support other areas of the operation, as deemed by the Maintenance Supervisor, even in areas outside typical heavy equipment mechanic duties
Requirements of a successful Utility Laborer
Experience troubleshooting and repairing mobile heavy equipment, conveyors, pickups, tractors and trailers.
An expert in identifying and diagnosing needed repairs by computer based systems, being able to visually recognize problems a big plus
Has an invested interest in operational safety
Be able to read, write and understand English and follow written and/or verbal instructions
Welding experience a plus
Willingness to do a significant amount of preventative maintenance
Prepared to help with anything requiring attention, as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor
Environmental awareness
Able to lift 50 lbs
Knowledge and experience using a CMMS is helpful
Excellent communication skills
Effective interfacing with internal leadership, direct reports, external vendors and other team members
Self-starter capable of working independently, in line with company goals, strategies and policies
