The successful candidate will be responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of equipment used at Savage's PABTEX facility. These are just a few of the benefits you can expect from working with Savage Opportunities for Growth Regular Work Week - Monday - Friday We provide Uniforms & PPE (laundering included) $150/Semi - annual steel toe boot allowance Paid Holidays Profit Sharing Excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with match Here is what you will be doing Perform minor/major repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance on mobile heavy equipment, conveyors, pickups, tractors and trailers at our Corpus Christi facility. Assists with other facility mechanical repairs as necessary Maintain shop cleanliness and parts inventory Learn and partner with the Maintenance Supervisor to utilize the CMMS system as a tool of organization and preventative maintenance record keeping Ensure all work is performed in compliance with regulatory requirements Follow proper safety rules, maintenance and operating procedures Assist with writing and revising maintenance procedures as needed Support other areas of the operation, as deemed by the Maintenance Supervisor, even in areas outside typical heavy equipment mechanic duties Requirements of a successful Utility Laborer Experience troubleshooting and repairing mobile heavy equipment, conveyors, pickups, tractors and trailers. An expert in identifying and diagnosing needed repairs by computer based systems, being able to visually recognize problems a big plus Has an invested interest in operational safety Be able to read, write and understand English and follow written and/or verbal instructions Welding experience a plus Willingness to do a significant amount of preventative maintenance Prepared to help with anything requiring attention, as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor Environmental awareness Able to lift 50 lbs Knowledge and experience using a CMMS is helpful Excellent communication skills Effective interfacing with internal leadership, direct reports, external vendors and other team members Self-starter capable of working independently, in line with company goals, strategies and policies Ability to be on call at designated times. Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and carry critical projects to completion A strong record of continuous improvement, personal development and attention to detail The chosen candidate will have a value system that will embrace our culture Prior experience as a mobile equipment mechanic/diesel mechanic required Certifications preferred but not required #IND1 Here are some of the physical requirements for this role Will be on your feet for extended period of time throughout the day Navigating the facility will include, but is not limited to, exposure to harsh weather conditions, uneven ground, ladders, racks and other high places, ground that can be slick or uneven, and other industrial hazards The work site is an industrial setting and will require someone who can work safely around this type of environment, as well as ensure compliance to strict OSHA and State regulations

What you will be doing: * Assist with spotting cars on the correct track; move empty cars and build the outbound train * Classification of inbound train * Interaction with class one railroad * Daily spot and pull with Ironhorse * Visually inspect rail cars and perform air brakes inspections * Cross train and willingness to assist in the different functions performed at the facility * Operate a locomotive -we provide training and certification! * Participate in and promote Savage safety program/SHAPS Requirements of a successful Rail Switchman: * Requires 3-5 years of switching experience. * A high school diploma, or equivalent * Ability to perform basic maintenance * Active Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC card) * Ability to attend and pass all training associated with job related coursework. This includes but is not limited to: OSHA, HazMat and FRA related courses. * Ability to travel to other sites to assist in switching and training requirements * Willingness to wear required PPE * Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends * Work experience in an industrial environment * Ability to read, write and understand English * Clear drug / alcohol test / criminal background check * Here are some of the physical requirements of this role: * Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions * Comfortable with heights * Walk 5+ miles per day on uneven terrain, etc. * Must be able to lift 50 lbs. * Ability to work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
