Saybrook University company history timeline

1971

Eleanor Camp Criswell, along with Rollo May, Clark Moustakas, and James Bugental, founded the Humanistic Psychology Institute at California State University, Sonoma in 1971.

1978

1978 Enrollment at the Humanistic Psychology Institute reaches 150 students, including students from 28 states and five countries.

1979

1979 The Humanistic Psychology Institute becomes a candidate for accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).

1981

1981 The Humanistic Psychology Institute is renamed Saybrook Institute to honor the Old Saybrook Conference and the pioneers of humanistic psychology.

1984

1984 WSCUC grants Saybrook Institute accreditation.

1986

1986 Doctor Polkinghorne ends his tenure as president.

1989

1989 Doctor Rudy Melone becomes the third president of Saybrook Institute.

2009

2009 The institution officially changes its name to Saybrook University, continuing to embody the soul of humanistic psychology.

2014

2014 Nathan Long, Ed.D., becomes the ninth president of Saybrook University.

The university became affiliated with the shared services organization TCS Education System in 2014 to provide administrative and financial services, so that the school could focus on teaching and research.

2018

2018 WSCUC reaffirms Saybrook University’s accreditation for eight years.

2020

The Saybrook University Board of Trustees announces a renewed vision, Saybrook 2020, edifying Saybrook’s place in the world and enhancing its ability to deliver a truly progressive graduate education.

2020 The university welcomes one of its largest incoming fall classes and achieves the largest overall enrollment in institutional history.

2021

Saybrook holds first annual Film, Book, and Poetry FestivalIn Blog, Creativity & InnovationJuly 29, 2021
