Schlitterbahn Waterparks company history timeline

1979

The Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort in New Braunfels opened in 1979 on land which had been purchased for the purpose by Bob and Billye Henry.

1991

In fact the ‘East’ amusement park is further divided into 2 separate areas – Surfenburg and Blastenhoff – the former built in 1991 and the latter following 5 years later.

1994

One of the amusement park’s claims to fame is that in 1994, it actually opened the world’s first ever uphill water ride – the Dragon Blaster.

1997

Today, Schlitterbahn New Braunfels has been recognized as the World’s Best Waterpark, winning Amusement Today’s prestigious Golden Ticket Award every year since the award was started in 1997.

2006

In 2006 Schlitterbahn Galveston Waterpark opened, expanding the Transportainment concept to cover the entire park.

2019

In 2019, Cedar Fair purchased the New Braunfels and Galveston properties.
