Schomp Automotive Group company history timeline

1941

We’ve made a lot of progress since opening in 1941 with a few Oldsmobiles parked outside a repurposed gas station in Englewood and have marked many milestones along the way.

Ralph Schomp Automotive gets its start in 1941 in Englewood, Colorado.

1946

The three men formed Arapahoe Basin, Inc on May 14, 1946.

Founded by five pioneers of skiing, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area opened in December of 1946 with one tow rope and a $1.25 lift ticket.

1958

Porsche Salt Lake City has been serving the Salt Lake Valley since 1958 as one of the first Porsche dealers in the United States.

1965

So on May 4, 1965, a better-informed and more civically-minded public established Arapahoe Junior College (AJC).

1966

By September 1966, Doctor Crawfurd and 23 faculty members welcomed the first class of 550 full- and part-time students.

1972

Doctor Crawfurd, who had been so instrumental in AJC's growth (400%) and speedy accreditation, retired in 1972.

1978

In 1978, Ralston Purina purchased the ski area and made several capital improvements, including the installation of the Pallavicini Lift.

1983

Other buildings around campus continued to be used, and the old West School building was renamed North Building and received extensive renovations in 1983.

1990

The Art and Design Center, on the corner of Alamo St and Prince St, was opened in 1990 and is the home to the college's art, fine art, design and technology programs.

1993

That includes our industry-leading “One Price – No Hassle” sales philosophy, adopted in 1993.

2000

In 2000 ACC completed a nearly $13 million expansion.

2001

The University Center of Chaparral near Parker opened in spring 2001 through a unique consortium of Arapahoe Community College, the University of Colorado at Denver, the University of Denver and the Douglas County School District.

2002

A snowmaking system was installed in 2002, making A-Basin a prominent contender in Colorado's race to open.

2005

2005 Centennial City Council adopts ordinances prohibiting additional car dealerships on Arapahoe Road to PROTECT

2008

In January of 2008, Arapahoe Basin expanded its acreage by 80 percent with the addition of Montezuma Bowl on the backside of the mountain.

A $1.2 million parking expansion and reconfiguration took place in the summer of 2008 which included a pedestrian tunnel under Highway 6, 300 additional parking spaces and a new shuttle bus system to transport guests from the upper parking lot to the base area.

2010

Doctor Crawfurd, who had been so instrumental in AJC's growth (400%) and speedy accreditation, retired in 1972. It was renamed Arapahoe Community College Parker Campus in 2010.

2013

Dream has invested millions of dollars into A-Basin's skier services since 2013.

2015

In 2015, the Kids Center, a new snowsports building was constructed in the base area, housing kids lessons and rentals, as well as a state-of-the-art First Aid room.

2015 Centennial City Council directed staff to explore retail opportunities on the Arapahoe Road Corridor.

2016

2016 January Arapahoe Road Retail Corridor Study completed Study concludes that retail other than dealerships, gas stations and fast food is not viable on Arapahoe Road (see page 12.) Apparently Aurora did not consult this "expert" before they built THEIR retail center ON Arapahoe Road.

The Arapahoe Sports Retail Shop underwent a $2.3 million renovation and expansion in the summer of 2016.

Mercedes-Benz of Farmington will open in 2016 in the suburban Salt Lake City, Utah community of Farmington.

2018

During June 11, 2018 work session, a member of Centennial City staff said he told Rahal he was comfortable that Council would approve the amendments.

Council will hear the first reading for an ordinance to repeal ordinance 2018-0-13

A recent highlight was the 2018 purchase of three Shortline dealerships in Aurora, Colorado.

2020

In September of 2020, Schomp Automotive partnered with Denver-based Elway Group to acquire Porsche Salt Lake City, the only Porsche Exclusive Dealer in Utah.

2021

In August of 2021, Empire Nissan of Littleton became Schomp Nissan.

2022
