Responsible for the maintenance of buildings, grounds and bus(es) in a professional and timely manner, including, but not limited to: changing air filters in HVAC units monthly fire extinguisher checks watering, mowing, trimming and weed-eating seeing that buses are in good operating condition at all time and for reporting any problems to the direct supervisor Clean and safe environment inside and outside the bus through regular cleaning. Participate in the required Random Drug and Alcohol Testing for Bus Drivers. Participate in a combination of classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel instruction training prior to transporting any children.     REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Substitute (5 hours per day) QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: High school or equivalency diploma preferred; valid Commercial Driver's Louisiana (CDL) with passenger air brakes endorsement and with an acceptable motor vehicle record; pass a medical health examination annually; certified through the State Pre-Service Training Program; maintain certification through the State's Eight-hour In-service Training Program annually; to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES * Exhibit concern for the safety of children - morally and legally responsible for transporting children using every precaution for their maximum protection. * Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip checks on the vehicle and special equipment. * Obey state traffic laws and ordinances governing motor vehicle operation. * Participate in meetings, conferences, and training courses as required. * Maintain a safe, comfortable, clean bus and report all mechanical problems. * Complete and submit required reports within the specified time. * Show punctuality and reliability in operation of routes and be consistent in work habits. * Maintain orderly conduct of all passengers and use the proper procedures in reporting disorderly passengers. * Notify the proper authorities in the case of mechanical failure or delays. * Report all accidents and complete required reports. * Transport only authorized students and discharge students at authorized bus stops. * Maintain first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and warning devices. * Show leadership when on school trips. * * Adhere to route or schedule, etc. to meet the demands of the school officials willingly within 5 hours of your duty employment. * Attend to any other duties included in those of a school bus operator within 5 hours of your daily employment. * Adhere to the buddy system that has been implemented to the full extent of its requirements and protocols. * * Adhere to and refrain from using any cellular device, which should include a cellular phone or earpiece in any way, shape, or form at any time when there are children on the bus unless there is communication between yourself and Assumption Parish Transportation Department (earpieces or Bluetooth devices should not be in the ear even if cellular devices are not in use). * * Bus shall remain parked at your designated area when not in use for your school route. * * Adhere to and refrain from driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs. * Perform any other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor/designee. * PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: ATTENDANCE, PUNCTUALITY, AND SAFETY * Adhere to district guidelines relative to attendance. Clock in/out on district timeclock and utilize time when appropriate. * Employees are to notify their supervisors as early as possible about scheduling time off from work (e.g. doctor's appointment, personal days etc.), whether paid or unpaid. * Regularly report to work on time and adhere to their workplace schedule. * Work additional hours assigned (i.e. faculty meeting, cluster meetings, professional development etc.) Attend and constructively participate in meetings and professional development activities. Use active listening skills and accept and recognize the value of the contribution of others. * Complete tasks in a safe manner as prescribed by the Safety Department or by the employee's profession/craft. * Report any unsafe conditions or any incidents of injury or damage immediately to the appropriate official. * Maintain a neat and orderly work environment. * Dress appropriately for the job assigned and in compliance with state law and Board policy GAMB Employee Dress Code. Display employee ID tag at all times on duty. * Comply with policies on GAMA Employee Tobacco Use, Drug-Free Workplace, and use of cell phones when on duty. * Assist in any safe schools' procedures and protocols. Including, but not limited to sanitizing classroom/work area high frequency contact points.
