ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Operate bus and all related equipment in a safe and efficient manner, obeying all traffic laws and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the department.
* Provide a safe and positive riding experience for all students assigned to your bus.
* Immediately report involvement in any collision, incident or job-related injury before the completion of your assigned shift through prescribed guidelines and procedures.
* Immediately report mechanical problems, damage to bus (interior and exterior) and perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections through prescribed guidelines and procedures.
* Keep interior of bus clean/neat and maintain appropriate level of fuel as stated in department policy.
* Maintain effective behavior management over groups of children.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Requires performing tasks such as sitting, twisting and bending.
2. Work positions include kneeling and climbing, with extended reach above head (12 inches) and extended reach in front of body (14 inches).
3. Load and unload vehicle, lifting and pulling up to 20 pounds on hand device while operating the service door, opening and closing 15-60 times per shift.
4. Operate the vehicle in all climatic conditions.
5. Operate the vehicle up to 7 1/2 hours per day on established routes.
6. Climb in and out of bus, through service door, 5-15 times per shift.
7. Physical ability to enter and exit the bus through the emergency exits.
8. Drive in reverse (as dictated by circumstances) which requires twisting the upper body and neck while driving.
9. Must be able to pass a mandatory Department of Transportation Physical which includes the following:
* Diabetes - have no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of diabetes Mellitus currently requiring insulin for control
* Hypertension - Blood pressure maximum 160/90
* Vision - have distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye with or without corrective lenses or visual acuity
separately corrected to 20/40 (Snellen) or better with corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70 degrees in the horizontal
meridian in each eye and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green and amber.

Position Description: Under direct supervision, this position is responsible for operating the Senior Activity Center Bus within city limits, providing safe and reliable transportation for residents of the incorporated City of Humble ages 55 and older. Duties include scheduling and transporting passengers to and from various destinations, assisting riders as needed (including those in wheelchairs), and maintaining the vehicle's cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain regular and timely attendance.
Operate the multi-passenger van or bus, transporting passengers to and from designated areas.
Prepare and coordinate daily transportation routes, ensuring timely and efficient service while effectively communicating schedules and rider needs to the Senior Activity Coordinator.
Provide excellent customer service while maintaining effective working relationships.
Assist senior passengers with safely boarding and exiting the bus, including helping to load and unload groceries, especially during inclement weather.
Knowledge of, or ability to learn, proper use of a wheelchair lift. Assist wheelchair passengers, including properly securing them on the wheelchair lift for boarding and exiting, and ensuring their wheelchairs are safely secured on the bus.

Attend staff and training meetings and/or complete required online training.
Assist in Senior Center functions as needed.
Report any needed repairs or maintenance to the Senior Activity Coordinator in a timely manner.
Answer incoming phone calls, schedule rides for senior passengers, and respond to transportation-related inquiries.
Provide information regarding Senior Activity Center programs and schedules.
Must be available to work occasional evenings or weekends to assist with day trips and special events.
