Additional extracurricular runs (sports and field trips) and charter work may also be available. Typical runs are morning and afternoon and average 25 to 30 hours per week. Competitive hourly wages. This is a great job for stay at home parents, retirees, or anyone looking for extra income. Experienced bus drivers that have a CDL with P and S endorsements are preferred, but we will also provide PAID training for good drivers without school bus experience. Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skill in operating large school buses and special needs equipped buses and vans in a safe and lawful manner during varying weather, road, and traffic conditions; and to recognize when conditions are unsafe for bus operation. Operate buses for extended periods of time for over-the-road special activity trips and to drive safely in unfamiliar surroundings, varying from congested city streets to mountain roadways. Develop a good rapport with students and maintain discipline among students while they are being transported. Be aware of and respond promptly to physical and emotional needs of students with disabilities. Be able to independently make sound decisions in unusual and emergency situations.
Knowledge in principles and practices of driver training, including behind-the-wheel, defensive driving, and reference point driving; provisions of the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicle and State Department of Education laws and regulations governing the operation of school buses; district policies and rules applicable to school bus operations. Mechanical operation of school buses, including bus safety and mechanical operation inspection practices and techniques. Safe driving and general safety policies and practices. School bus safety equipment and its proper use. A variety of vehicles in terms of make, model, power trains including diesel engines, automatic, and five speed manual transmissions. Recordkeeping requirements relating to school bus driver licensing and payroll.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position transports program children to and from home during school days and is a critical part of the team in maintaining the safety of the children and the continued growth and sustainability of Latino Network's early childhood programs. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections for the operation of the bus, including all emergency equipment; record inspections on daily logs.
Maintain bus records, keep all mileage records, maintenance records, and gasoline purchases, and submit to Facilities Manager as required.
Bus maintenance will be scheduled and completed in collaboration with the IT/Facilities manager.
Ensure the bus has all required safety equipment on board, useable, and unobstructed.
Keep bus clean, free of debris and any safety hazards at all times. Conduct Emergency Evacuations at minimum three (3) times per year.
Provide School Bus and Pedestrian Safety training to children and parents within the first thirty (30) days of school.
Work with facilities manager to establish and maintain the most economical daily route. Ensure timely communication of any schedule adjustments/changes to parents and preschool director.
Maintain a current student roster including the child's name, address, and estimated time of pick-up/drop-off and name(s) of adults authorized to pick up children from the bus stop, and a map of the route in the bus and in the classroom for substitute drivers and classroom teachers.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date emergency contact information on all children in the program.
Ensure each child is released to the care of an authorized individual on the Permission to Release form.
Observe and report incidents of concern of children on the bus to the Preschool Director.
Report all accidents to the proper authorities per state requirements.
Assist with the required use of seat belts for all passengers, and ensure that all children are placed in appropriate height/weight child safety restraints.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Maintain a safe and clean bus by sweeping, fueling and washing, as appropriate.

Safely drive a regular school bus (up to 84-passenger) on an assigned route, loading and unloading students at predetermined stops.

Maintain discipline on the bus, issuing referrals for persistent behavior problems and reporting most critical behavior problems to supervisor.
SPECIAL BUS ROUTES:
Safely drive a school bus or van equipped to transport students with physical disabilities.

Experience Required: Sufficient driving experience to demonstrate the ability to become skilled at safely driving large vehicles, transporting large numbers of people, and transporting individuals with special physical needs.

Skill in operating large school buses and special needs equipped buses and vans in a safe and lawful manner during varying weather, road, and traffic conditions; and to recognize when conditions are unsafe for bus operation. Develop a good rapport with students and maintain discipline among students while they are being transported. Knowledge of traffic signs and devices, safe motor vehicle driving techniques, and how to use city and highway maps. Knowledge of first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation techniques.
Abilities to learn and apply the laws, rules and regulations governing the operation of a school bus regarding traffic safety, passenger loading and unloading, and student discipline. Learn specific bus routes, complete scheduled routes in a timely manner, and adjust to periodic changes in schedules and routes. Recognize potential mechanical and safety equipment problems and to explain these problems to mechanics. Write legibly; and to make clear, brief, factual written and oral reports. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to read and follow written direction as relates to performing this job.
Ability to speak a second language preferred.
Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and sufficient education to comprehend and apply motor vehicle operation laws and district student transportation policies and procedures.
Certifications and/or Testing Required: Possession of, or ability to obtain following a period of training, licenses and certificates necessary for operating a school bus.
