The School Bus Driver operates a school bus and transports students safely in accordance with Company policy and local, county, state, and federal laws. Key Responsibilities: + Safely operate a vehicle on an assigned route in transporting passengers to and from designated locations, as well as related activities, in a safe, timely manner. + Maintain, read, and understand route sheets including time changes and notify supervisor immediately of any changes. Maintain good work habits through timeliness and low absenteeism for daily assignments and extra trips. + Properly care for the assigned vehicle and its component parts as prescribed by the company to ensure safety, minimize wear and to extend its useful life. + Operate the two-way communication equipment correctly and according to company policy. + Inspect each vehicle before, during and after each trip using correct procedures and completes all necessary forms and reports. Operate the vehicle and stops to allow passengers to board and disembark using safe and responsible procedures. + Operate adaptive transportation lift to board and discharge challenged passengers using safe and responsible procedures. + Keep vehicle clean and orderly with daily cleaning after each route operated, as well as check for lost items. + Maintain a presentable appearance which includes being properly dressed according to company standards, neat grooming and good hygiene. + Maintain a cooperative attitude with fellow employees, supervisors, and passengers; always promoting company goodwill. + Control emergency situations in proper manner. + Control vehicle keys, pre-trip and post-trip forms while in possession, and turns in to dispatch as required by your supervisor. + Successfully complete driving skills evaluation. + Attend all required in-service training, company required safety meetings and training, and any other required meetings. + Ability to comply with all contractual obligations as well as all local, state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the vehicle. + Immediately report every accident, no matter how insignificant the accident may appear. + Accurately maintain proper shift documentation reports, and records. + Follow the correct end-of-shift procedures. + Follow all safety policies and procedures. + Exhibit both written and spoken communication skills and communicate effectively. + Ability to read a map and possess knowledge of the service area. + Ability to work flexible hours. + Must be hospitable, guest/customer service oriented, and be willing to serve the needs of passengers. + Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving. + Ability to safely drive various vehicles. + Ability to work independently. + Ability to make independent judgments which have moderate impacts on the organization. + Travel requirement (as a percent): 100% of time is spent in the field. + Performs other duties as required. The bus driver will make a priority to have a safe and educational ride. Job Description The bus driver must be familiar with Greater Lawrence streets and will drive the school bus in accordance with all local and State regulations and requirements. The bus driver will make a priority to have a safe and educational ride. Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities: Transports children to and from school and follows a planned route on a time schedule. Picks up children along scheduled routes at the same time every day. Transports children on fieldtrips and/or to other activities. Maintains a basic routine check of bus fluids and lights including regular refueling and cleaning of assigned vehicle and performing daily pre-trips. Notifies manager of vehicle repair or maintenance needs, maintains a monthly log of any maintenance done to vehicles and submits monthly logs to manager. Assists with delivery of program supplies, materials, mail, etc. as assigned. Willing to learn how to operate and use all office equipment. Skills & Qualifications: Valid Massachusetts CDL with Passenger and School bus endorsement. Must have the ability to maintain a positive relationship with parents, children, and co-workers. Must be punctual and reliable. Must have some flexibility when an emergency arises. Bilingual English/Spanish. Show documented proof of current Department of Transportation medical card and School Bus certificate card, negative TB test, and proof of MMR immunity. (Hepatitis B immunity is advisable.) Must have a suitable CORI, SORI, & DCF background check on file prior to employment. Pre-employment Drug/Alcohol test required. Must obtain First Aid & CPR certificate upon hire. Notifies the receiving school staff of concerns regarding a child's health, behavior, or emotional state. Learns bus route and makes the substitute driver aware of it when necessary. Maintains a list on board the bus of all children authorized by the director to ride the bus, and indicates daily the children actually riding the bus and to whom each child is released Reports all unscheduled absences to the director of transportation. Checks the bus to assure there are no children remaining on the bus at the end of each route. SALARY/BENEFITS: $18.75.00 per hour.
