    Lewis Central Community School District is looking for Bus Drivers for the 2025-2026 school year. Fully licensed and trained drivers start at $18.00 per hour plus more for prior CDL experience. Those with no experience are also encouraged to apply as we will train you. Applicants must have a commercial learner's permit berfore they can start training. POSITION TITLE: Bus Driver FLSA: Hourly, Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Transportation Director Basic Duties (not all inclusive): Completes the required pre-trip/route and post-trip/route inspections. Completes the assigned route/trip on a safe, but timely basis. Operates the bus and related vehicle equipment in a safe, efficient and legal manner. Confronts emergency situations in accordance with safety-standard operational procedures. Works with bus monitor to see all students are following the rules of the bus. Qualifications: No experience needed. Must be able to pass DOT physical including a drug screen. Must have or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License- Class B with passenger and school bus endorsements. Must have or be able to obtain a School Bus Driver Authorization Card from the State of Iowa. The district will provide paid training to assist in obtaining these necessary qualifications. Consistent attendance necessary. Hours/Schedule: The position is guaranteed 5 hours of pay per day. 2.5 in the morning and 2.5 in the afternoon. The actual time worked may vary for either the morning or afternoon. This position is expected to work all days students are in session and need transportation to and from school. That is usually 177 student days. Typically, student days are the only days you will need to be in attendance but there are transportation meetings, trainings, etc. that may require you to come in outside of your normally scheduled hours. These would be paid unless told otherwise. Rate of pay: The hourly rate of pay starts at $16.55 for those that do not have both their CDL and department of education requirements. There is a potential to make more based off of a few things. Your past driving experience ($0.10-$0.20 more per hour maxed at 5 years' experience), Current CDL ($0.75 per hour), all department of education requirements met ($0.75 per hour). You do not have to have your CDL or all department of education requirements in order to be a Bus Driver, we will train you and help you get these. A permit is required before we are able to hire anyone. Your starting rate will be determined by the Business Office/HR after submitting your application and current qualifications. Benefits: Since this is a part-time, school-year position, it is not eligible for health and dental benefits however, it does qualify for a $20,000 life insurance policy at no cost to you. You also are enrolled from day one, in the state sponsored retirement program, IPERS. The District contributes 9.44% of your wages to this. IPERS requires that you would contribute 6.29% of your wages. Paid Leave: The District has both paid sick leave and paid personal leave. As an employee of the District you are given 2 personal days to use throughout the school year. You are given sick leave based on the number of years you are with the District; your first year you are given 10 days, pro-rated for the month that you start employment. This position is not eligible for paid vacation leave. Paid Holidays: This position is paid for 5 holidays throughout the school year. Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Memorial Day.

Candidates must have a clean driving record and are willing to authorize and pass a criminal background check. Essential Functions Safe Transportation of Client(s) & Employees Comply with all 360 Community Services -Personnel Policies and Procedures as well as local, state, and federal motor vehicle regulations, laws, and ordinances. Maintain safe passage of all clients and employees through strict adherence of seat belts. Interactive wireless communication devices include, but are not limited to, mobile, or cellular-telephones, a text messaging device, personal digital assistants (PDA's), audio-video players that send or receive messages, and laptop computers. Refrain from allowing any unauthorized individual to operate a motor vehicle owned or leased by 360 Community Services, including a temporary replacement vehicle. Notify the Director of Day Services immediately and to provide any additional notification to 360 Community Services as required by policies and procedures, if any of the following should occur: Suspended or revoked driver's license for any reason. Citation for any moving violation, while operating a motor vehicle (including driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol). Involvement in a motor vehicle accident with or without client passengers on board. Any illness, injury, physical condition, or use of a medication that may impair or affect the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle Van Upkeep Ensure van is fueled regularly using agency's P-Fleet gas cards. Maintain fuel & odometer records and submit reports to the Director of Day Service. Maintain the safe operation of vans through the completion of a pre-route van inspection, including monitoring check engine lights; checking oil, antifreeze, transmission, and windshield fluid levels; tire pressure; and functioning light bulbs. Submit inspection reports and/or notify the Director of Day Services immediately on vehicle issues that would affect the ability to safely operate the van. Ensure van is clean and sanitized following each route and conduct a full interior/exterior cleaning at an assigned Car Wash every month or as necessary. Other Duties as Assigned Works collaboratively with the Director of Day Services on special projects related to transportation and/or Van Upkeep.
