Greensboro Day School is looking for a responsible and reliable schoolbusdriver to transport students to and from school following a scheduled route and ensuring their safety. The schoolbusdriver's responsibilities include ensuring proper vehicle maintenance, observing safety and traffic rules, and maintaining order among students while they are on the bus.
To be successful as a schoolbusdriver you should enjoy working with children and strictly observe passenger transport regulations. Ultimately, a top-notch schoolbusdriver should be meticulous when it comes to vehicle inspections and regard passenger safety as the highest priority.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Be attentive to traffic and weather conditions and ensure passenger safety.
Follow the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops.
Regularly check vehicle safety such as tires, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, etc.
Monitor and report fuel consumption, mileage, and passenger numbers.
Report delays, accidents, and emergencies.
Respond to emergency and non-emergency situations.
Inspect the vehicle thoroughly before and after each trip.
Assist with the loading and unloading of the bus when required.
Enforce conduct and safety rules on the bus.
Maintain a clean vehicle.

Working Conditions
Drivers work part time-many are on the road fewer than twenty hours per week-and only when school is in session. Some volunteer to drive buses for field trips or extracurricular activities so they can work more hours. Driving can be stressful in bad weather or heavy traffic. While they may have to deal with unruly students at times, most drivers enjoy the interaction with children and take their responsibilities very seriously.
Physical Requirements
All schoolbusdrivers within the state of North Carolina must meet physical requirements established by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The physical demands include, but are not limited to, standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching and bending. There will be extended periods of sitting required when transporting students. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to loud noise for long periods of time.

Reports to the Zone Transportation Supervisor, on the day of occurrence, any students added to or deleted from the route by the school principal which will necessitate a change in the route, bus stops and/or schedule.
Obeys all traffic laws and schoolbus regulations while operating the schoolbus.
Observes all safety regulations and standards for schoolbuses. This includes clearing the schoolbus and evacuating students quickly in the event of an emergency.
Has a copy of the current Handbook for the SchoolBusDriver and the Safety Assistant; refers to it periodically for guidance and to answer questions.
Maintains discipline of students assigned to ride the schoolbus. Establishes a discipline plan that is consistent with school disciplinary objectives, as stated by the principal, and which provides a clear, progressive plan of consequences for students who cause disciplinary problems and rewards for those who maintain proper schoolbus safety standards.
Reports undisciplined students to the responsible school principal. Discharges students only at the authorized school or bus stop locations. Transports only authorized students.
Keeps the schoolbus clean and free of papers, bottles, cans food wrappers and other items which may present a safety problem.
Reports all accidents as required by Transportation Operating Instructions and remains at the scene of the accident until released by the on-scene transportation supervisor.
Completes personal time card and required reports, including reports required in the event of an accident or incident aboard the schoolbus.
Remains in charge of all students aboard the bus at the time of an accident, determining the existence and extent of any injuries and maintaining the safety of all passengers.
Secures the assigned bus before leaving the vehicle at the conclusion of a run or route. This includes parking the vehicle properly, making a visual inspection of the bus to check for damage and the possibility of remaining passengers (replace All-Out Flag or turn off child minder alarm), and securing all windows and doors to protect the interior of the vehicle.
Maintains acceptable relationships with parents/guardians of students transported and with school personnel.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school and some experience driving large vehicles with some experience in transporting humans preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
